Re: [themotherfuckingcaptain] Going In . . .
Depends ... as most thing do

Going in ... well, true if you think of the actual physical thing that happens ... I mean it is called a crater party for a reason.

Going out ... well, true if you think you can escape this life and go out ... otherwise I usually use that phrase to indicate that I am going out from where I am physically present at the time, like a room, car or apartment.

So I would say, whatever makes you happy :) my guess is that people in general and basejumpers in particular will understand what you are referring to.

Hope that helps!

One might characterize the BASE community as a 'tough crowd' and to some extent that title is rightfully earned.

Your attempt at black humor isn't unusual, and in fact, if you'd said it at an exit point after a long hike you might elicit a chuckle from your jumping companion.

However, from your profile, I extrapolate that you don't have much experience in the sport of BASE jumping, and therefore haven't experienced what it's like to meet someone in the sport, get to know them, stay in touch, become friends, risk your lives together, celebrate victories, wince at injuries, and, as you have to accept when start jumping with someone, prepare for that day when you may log onto a forum (such as this one) and find out they're now dead. Maybe it someone you liked, but didn't know well, or maybe it was your best friend.

It may seem unfair that those with more experience in the sport can 'get away' with comments akin to your post, but that's part of the communal spirit of the sport. Once you've experienced and endured the ramifications of the topic you joke about, you'll do it differently and likely in a way that others will be able to relate to. But right now, you're on the outside making wisecracks about those on the inside, and you're encountering the responses you likely would from any community that you approached and made jokes about.

Be well!

That's nearly as bad as comparing someone to a crane fly. See ya Laugh
