Intentional Cutaway Mods
Anyone have recommendations or complaints about various mods to their harness for intentional cutaways?
Basically I'm considering installing a second 3-ring attachment to the main-lift-web to allow intentional cutaways of unpacked jumps. I'll probably go through the harness manufacturer for the actual work, but am just trying to get an idea of what's been done already in this arena.

Cutaway handle placement?
Cable routing?
Pictures? Smile

I've had friends just wear two harnesses. It's just important to watch your cutaway handles!

It's easier if you use one with a pillow handle and one with a hidden loop.

I did them skydiving with a ground launching harness with a three ring worn underneath a skydiving rig. Worked really well. Just make sure if youre doing it off something low that you dont have two handles you could mistake for one another as tom said.

And tie the loop to a part of your rig (chest strap or something) so you can't pull it no matter what.

or disable it entirely like I do. its only a matter of time, as with everything.
it didn't take long when I called it for No-PC static lines.

well, even if you pulled the wrong handle .. you'd still have to:

"oh wait.. i pulled the wrong handle, let me pull the other one to make sure i cutaway now!"

or the cutaway handle rubbing on the sandwiching main lift webs, leading to loose [er] cutaway lines.

scary stuff, those cutaways.

but your right... the chances are one in a million of someone making the SECOND decision to CUT AWAY.

you never know, people can do some stupid shit in a quick instant like that.. i'd say disable it or use a double-cutaway (2nd handles on the risers) if you really need to be able to chop it.

now as for whoever's holding that dbag (if any), there are some other precautions to take... tornolf can tell you all about that Tongue

The best method I've found for that is just to wrap duct tape around the main lift web and through the cutaway loop.

Flydive,
I had Marty at Asylum modify my Perigee Pro for exactly that several years ago. The cutaway concern is not a problem at all. Have done plenty of unpacked jumps and then cut them away. Easy. Just don't drop your cable.

Re: [flydive] Intentional Cutaway Mods
I have not done this, nor am I ready yet,
BUT I have a great idea on how to do it,
and will eventually own a rig like this:

Make or buy a custom BASE rig with the
risers integrated into the harness like a
reserve but also has a pair of big rings
on the front like a skydive container.

You do your TARD with a canopy on the
rings and then chop using your main BASE
wing packed on your back. Plus I would
probably put the cut-away handle on the
chest strap (temporary) so you can also
use the rig like a normal BASE rig w/o
having an extra funkiness to deal with.
