Passion Before Paycheck - What is your Passion?
Recently I posted the Anthony Robbins VS BASE Jumpers. It clarified how people can become passionate about something because it served the six essential human needs. At the same time there was a post about someone’s passion for BASE that people were replying to.

It got me thinking about every person’s passion and how especially in BASE we are amazingly passionate about our sport, our friends in the sport and the objects that we jump and work so hard to protect.

I also noted that there are many BASE Jumpers that are passionate about things outside of the sport. Over the years of watching the posts on this site…I saw pictures from people who where passionate about their art or sculptures. People that were passionate about their jobs, toys they buy for other activities or members of their family whether it was their spouse or new child.

There are the people that are truly passionate about the sport like:

Tom A. -He is so passionate about teaching new BASE Jumpers that he provides a course for free. Along with moderating our posts and I am guessing for little or no money. He embodies the Passion Before Paycheck mentality fully.

Bazil – He shoots amazing photos for us as jumpers and often takes great care of us on the price just to get his brand image out there.

Marta and Jimmy – Put an unending amount of energy and time into their product and events for us to be apart of and enjoy.

Chris Pope – Edited for a month straight with no sleep to produce Continuum II. It just about killed him.

Shane M. and Miles and Co – These guys get to travel the world doing what they love and have proved that if you are passionate about something deeply enough then a paycheck will come.

Nick D. – Spends the most time, with the longest posts, educating the old and new jumpers about the history of our sport and how we can learn from the past for a better future.

Jason Bell – Is so passionate about Bridge Day and how it runs year after year.

And all the members at ABP – For their efforts to open up closed objects and spend so much time and energy for an outcome that is not guaranteed.

All these thoughts led me to write about these concepts which soon led to:

Passion Before Paycheck

This is the same site that has A.R. VS Base Jumpers, but the new post is asking for your input.

I am looking for people to post as little or as much about your passion whether it is BASE, Skydiving, Art, Giving, etc. Whatever it is we want to hear about it.

Your return on your investment will be one where you can post your website link and we will happily direct people there. Maybe you can sell your services, artwork, product or anything else. It is our pleasure just to hear your story. Posting links to your YouTube Videos and pictures will also be added to the posts.

The site is really taking off and this could be a major part of it. Your input is appreciated. Check it out…

Thank you for your time and helping a fellow BASE jumper.

Sincerely,

Kenyon Salo

Re: [Triaxial] Passion Before Paycheck - What is your Passion?
i had this huge passion for base when i started(24/7/365), i started skydiving just to have a soft start....
And i did basejump very often alone, now i don`t do that anymore...i know i would do this for a long time...but i feel that i have lost some of that passion that i used i have...

So my question to you is...

If BASE is not your passion something else must be...when you stop doing one passion its because another has taken over. This is the exact thing that I am in search of.

When I started jumping it was BASE forever...now it is not as often. My new goal is to follow this through and eventually be able to BASE the crown jewels with no worries about obligations or financial...but that requires a few steps before then...so here I am.

Re: [johan420] Passion Before Paycheck - What is your Passion?
That is the whole deal...for years I personally followed the paycheck. Making that my number one priority. Now I find that if I follow my passion first that surprisingly I am super happy all the time and it appears that the projects coming my way will pay far more than chasing the paycheck.

Best yet they will allow me to use my skills as a BASE jumper on occasion. Perfect world...

So I am trying to find people that are absolutely choosing passion before paycheck.

Always have gone passion first, luckily it came with a decent paycheck to boot. In school I was in the military reserves, that lead to bodyguarding work and some jobs in the middle east, now its photography and the paycheck is soon to come from that.

If you were to get paid for BASE Jumping for a full time job...how much or little money would it take to change your current job?

Would you be willing to downgrade your lifestyle in order to achieve or experience BASE as a career?

Re: [Triaxial] Passion Before Paycheck - What is your Passion?
I have always chosen paycheck over passion for many reasons:

-Financially supporting my family is more important than BASE jumping
-Making a living in my current profession offers much more stability than making a living as a jumper. What happens if you get injured as a professional jumper?
-Can BASE jumpers really make a decent living by jumping?

However, I truly respect and sometimes envy anyone who is able to jump for a living and enjoy it. If you can pay the bills and enjoy your passion at the same time, then you have achieved something that many of us only dream about. While we are all BASE jumpers sharing the same dream, at the same time we are all different in our personal lives, professions, and personalities.

BASE jumping has, and always will be, something I do purely for fun......

PS. I just read Kenyan's website - great job and very interesting!
