base canopy pack volumes in skydiving containers
hello guys,
just a quick question, how does a vented dacron lined canopy compare to a 9 cell spectra lined skydiving canopy in terms of pack volume? will a 280 base canopy pack happily into a 280 skydiving canopy container?
thanks,
mike

I shoved a Flik 293 into a Javelin J-5 it was tight as hell but worked.

Depends on the canopies. Is the 9cell cross braced? If so, it would be fairly equal to a vented dacron lined one.

If you need to, you can make a second closing loop to the needed length for your BASE canopy. The main flaps don't really need to overlap. I've done this many times with demo canopies. Just watch the bridle routing. Smile

i'm pretty sure no one is making 280ft X-braced skydiving canopies. and if they did, they would be nowhere near equal.

it will fit.

ah, yes. I was very distracted while writing that post, and it didn't come out anywhere near what I meant to say...

I freepacked a newish dagger 222 into a mirage built for a 135. worked great for all the jumps.
used a shoelace for the closing loop. looked ugly, but never a problem.

F111 fabric packs down smaller than an equivalent size ZP in my experience.

Funny how most of the people posting here have no knowledge of canopies or how to fly them .

your spectar is Z-P 280 is 280 although certian compianies use diffrent types Z-P and messure the canopies driffernt there gonna be close
reserve's on the other hand are a diffrent story
but thats a diffrent forum

So what Im saying is Z-P packs up much bigger
So the with of your lines on your BASE canopy
wont really be an issue

but you might want to make a bigger closeing loop just in case .

and just use your PC from your spectar
how many jumps are on the spectar

Yes

It may frown just a little at first, but in the long run, it will be happy.

You'd be surprised what will "fit".
I new a gut that split the seams in the corners of his Javilen so that he could jump his CRW canopy in it. The edges of the flaps just barely touched. I've jumped one where I didn't even try to close the side flaps of the container. The top and bottom flaps had a 2.5 inch gap between them and that was a free packed canopy. I did free fall it but I didn't free fly. Just be creative. It's fun to scare the yupie jumpers.

To pratice jump my Mojo 280 prior to my FJC
I cutaway my skydive main and just hooked
the BASE canopy up to my skydive container
and put the canopy in a shopping bag... sure
got some strange looks but it worked great!
