You should pay them in Monopoly money. Thats what I just sent the USPA for my membership.

He was former Marine and you're now Army...???
Yeah I think your ticket was probably for not being "Semper Fidelis" Cheating on the Corps with the Town Bike. The Army will let anyone have a ride.Wink

That sucks.

What did he say about the Sheriff?

Re: [Para_Frog] Yellowline - MOAB Bad JuJu
[The Ranger was cool, but said the Sheriff is after BASE jumpers.]

I agree with the sheriff on this one. BASE jumpers can't be allowed to be a nuisance to motorists on what I am sure is a very busy highway. Tongue

Just cuz it's legal doesn't make it legal... I wonder if climbers get the same ticket for standing on the side of Potash road... I've witnessed nuisances in Moab and landing on a road ain't it. Especially after jumping where you can see traffic in both directions.

I guess they are getting ready for Jeep Safari and bringing in all the hard-asses. Soon it'll be just like a National ParkFrown

If you outlaw parachutes only Outlaws will have parachutes.Sly

I'd check the laws a little before you pay that. A federal citation on a state hwy doesn't make much sense to me.

In reply to:
creating a nuisance by BASE jumping onto a State HWY
I'll tell you what's a nuisance..all those friggin speeding cars gettin in my way when I'm trying to land on the highway/LZ that my tax dollars helped to pave (and watch out for my windsock too ! ) and how about enforcing the speed limit on Potash so I don't get mowed over by one of those trucks Wink
I guess we'll have to start landing in the river...

Re: [base935] Yellowline - MOAB Bad JuJu
Its Jeep Week, consequently thousand more people in town and Jeeps galore everywhere. Town and surrounding areas are busy with law enforcement dishing out tickets left, right and center (even on the road to TS).

Re: [Para_Frog] MOAB - Landing on Roads
Our friend Jeb proved the defense "I planned my jump around traffic and people below so I would not create an endangerment (nuisance)" worked... At least once.

I would fight it (if you can make it to the court date) and explain just like a pedestrian crosses a road between traffic, at the exit point of YL you can see the road and work around traffic.

If they want to give you a ticket for your activity - they would - to be fair - have to give the exact same ticket to every bicyclist, runner, walker, or pedestrian who uses the roads and may cross the road, or park on the side of the road, or stop walking on the road for a water break, between traffic. Climbers who stand on the side of the road are equally to blame.

I would be much more willing to give you a donation to fight this one (to set precedent) instead of giving you a donation to pay.

Note - if your jump was poorly timed and you cut off a car, or made a car slow down, then well - you probably had it coming to ya.Tongue

I'd hate to start a pissing contest there. I think what's needed is a clear ruling on what they concider accepable. Have they made any request that we not land on the road? What do Marta and Jimmy have to say on this? I think it's more a question that should be brought up to the local BLM office not nescercaraly a court. If permission has been granted they might just drop the charges against you or give blessing to your fight in court. If they have a real issue with it we might be better off giveing up those sites.

Well, if there is video from the load, the cop didn't see it, and you present it properly, then you should get out of it. But you can't use the word "fair" in relation to LE and BASE.
