I know many of you are oppossed to this law . Why I have no Idea, you don't even live here.
I on the other hand am sick and tired of getting aressted and haveing a ppolice report say reckless indangerment grand teft auto, grand larsiny, asault with a deadly weapon, u know the usual crap
with a charge like base jumping I can fram that on my wall and be proud

I never got a diploma to hang on my wall
but getting aressted for base and haveing it say base jumping onit is something i would be proud of

and if u cant be proud of the fact that you got busted base jumping then stay on your soffa and do some channel surfing because your not really a base jumper anyway

So, correct me if I'm wrong. You're basically proud that you are unable to outwit the police and minimum wage security guards on a regualar basis. I guess I'm not a "real" base jumper. That sucks! And I thought I was doing so well. I'll have to re-think my reasons for jumping. Thanks for enlightening me. I can't wait to get busted. I've always wanted to be a real base jumper. You're cool!

all im saying is if you gonna get cought u might as well get a cool trophy out of it .

What would be the likely penalty for being caught under this new law?

It may be worth less than the money it’s printed on but here’s my two cents.

Are you suggesting that your jumping habits as well as the sport in general wouldn’t change simply because a specific law prohibits it? I guess that may be true for a lot of people but that road may lead to a degradation of the sport in the public eye. A law is can be like cancer; once embedded it can spread and become segue to other laws. That BLM land that everyone loves so much is great right? Is that safe? How long? Thomas Jefferson once said “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants”. Although he meant it for a much larger cause, one could apply this to our sport. I do not think a law that specifically bans BASE could not and would not be healthy. Anyone who thinks so should make a trip through D.C.; see how what I refer to as “blanket decisions” affect lives. In D.C. the 2nd amendment means nothing. I realize that these two are very separate issues but the foundation is the same.


I don’t think I would ever be “proud” to have been busted. It could be my lifestyle, attitude or just my line of work but if folks never saw, heard or witnessed me jumping I couldn’t be happier. If I get busted then I guess I'll deal with it, but am I not a base jumper because I wouldn't be proud of it?

Too many seem 'proud' of being busted....sharing a funny story over the beers..badge of honour ... etc etc.
Personally I'd be ashamed...its absolutely nothing to be proud of.
Whilst BASE jumping or infiltrating buildings during some other of my activities.....I'm proud Ive never been 'busted'
Close calls ...yes, absolutely...but no busts.
(And, honestly, its not been that hard to achieve..in a busy capital city)
Outside of the urban enviroment....I was on a load that got an object shut down, through pure misfortune of timimg and bad luck. ....but it was already doomed and nothing changed that....yet its still something I'm quite ashamed at being 'on'

One or two busts off high profile objects, where its unavoidable....understandable.
A 'bad luck' bust where you just got unlucky through no fault of your planning/preparation...understandable
Repeated busts or excitement at the thought/prospect of being busted... just indicates poor skills to me...

what are you gonna do? most things that are pleasurable in life are illegal or bad for your health. They might as well be honest and say they are busting us for base. Does anyone actually think there will ever be legal urban jumping?(outside of special events) And if anyone thinks they are hot-shit cause they haven't been busted, just wait. stay in it long enough and it's gonna happen, just like breaking a couple bones. I've certainly dodged way more busts than i've been caught in, but there are MANY more cops than jumpers. And as dumb as I like to think they are, eventually they are gonna get lucky. It's a statistics thing. So yeah, I've been busted, and broken, and they'll probably both happen again. chicks dig scars and bad boys.

The problem would arise if the penalty for being busted significantly went up. It's not that it would be an anti-BASE law, but that it would be a harsh law, and suddenly getting busted would mean getting in so much more trouble.

On the other hand, an anti-BASE law would still be bad. Correct me if I am wrong, but a judge would look more unfavorably on a person breaking a law by doing precisely what the law prohibits. For instance, a BASE jumper breaking an anti-trespassing law appears less evil and defiant than one breaking an explicit anti-BASE law, even if both laws carry the same penalty.

well, here's the deal stevenm... where we jump, we're already facing three felonies upon arrest. trespass, criminal mischief, and public endangerment. That's harsh. And no, I don't want it to be worse, which it would be with a fourth felony added to the mix... but I hate being lied to. and when I'm busted for P.E. or C.M. (Yeah, i'll admit, I'm trespassing) I just feel taken advantage of.

As to being looked upon more favorably by a judge for any reason..... that's all fairytales man. At least that's the case here, where lady justice is more of an accountant than a protector. they just want our $. If you can pay the lawyer fees + court fees + fine than you are free to go and repeat the whole process to their financial gain.

Don't get me wrong.... I'm not gonna be looking forward to this law passing. But at least those low life cheating officials won't be accusing me of something I didn't do. Well yeah they will, but they will at least be adding something i did do to the mix. And just like 1072 I'd frame my f'n arrest record and hang it on the wall. that shit is expensive, I might as well show it off!
