Yea this has been done in skydiving before Chris statsky riged one up for Wyat Drewes there was a pully system that allowed you to raise the camera after deployment. You can see some shots from it in Wyat's movie Parabatics.

how 'bout that hawk-mounted camera?

that was pretty innovative..

that is the 'kev cam'. I take it that the hawk's name is kevin.
