Yeahhhhh!!!!! nice job, cerro torre is the best of patagonic mountains. Dan Potter has jumping 3 year ago to the "Mocho" under cerro torre.

Re: [baldas] Cerro Torre: jump
In the last five years I have seen more sunny days in Patagonia than ever before. Terrific winds, rain and snow are still an ever present consideration but there has been some brilliant climbing done there recently.

Congrats on plucking this gem!

CONGRATS!

That was always a dream of mine and is probably the most difficult ascent in the world!

Re: [baldas] Cerro Torre: jump
A genuine hard core achievement, nice one Valery.

It is not evident that they climbed the mountain via any of the more technical routes like "The Compressor Route". Still an accomplishment to get it done.

Oh wow...that's absolutely fantastic! Maximum respect. I recently read "Sharper Edges", a book by a mountaineer/BASE jumper, and it included a picture of Cerro Torre. I thought immediately - that's jumpable. I'm so jealous!

Re: [goking] Cerro Torre: jump
Respect, and again respect.

And loads of jealousy of course.

I guess it is only a matter of time before the highest vertical wall (near Rakeknivven, Queen Maud Land, Antartica) gets done.

Ant-ar-tica you say? hmmm... man this base jumping sport is so cool! the human experience of the best at the best. as Carl Boenish said "a celebration of life and the human spirit."

I had traveled to Patagonia about 8 years ago for a scientific conference. Patagonia is so strange. The saying is "lago del desierto," which translates to "lake in the desert." The old timers spoke of the legend of Cerro Torre and I always wanted to do it as a dream but in reality there was no way I could do such a thing given finances and I guess not being a mountaineer. I feel a special satisfaction and warmth to know that sucker has been conquered. Peace and warm smiles.

Re: [NAR] Cerro Torre: jump
You kind of have to be a climber to appreciate how hard that was to pull off.

The wind in Patagonia is unreal. First you need a weather window just to climb, then you need a super good weather window to jump.

Congrats!! I was always wondering when this would be done.
