Funny base story....

Nah man, what's even funnier is the story of the newbie who only 18 months ago PCA'd a shop dummy wearing his rig, off the same 98ft bridge in broad daylight to see if his pack jobs opened on heading? When it was pointed out that this wouldn't be a reliable indicator for numerous reasons he declared that it would, cos he'd weighed down the dummy by strapping 2litre coke bottles filled with water to simmulate the correct weight.

Can you just imagine what that looked like to any one of the thousands of motorists who sped by that day. Laugh

Now that was funny.

ps. the dummy opened with a 180 so it was lucky he didn't jump that pack job after all Laugh

Nah, he wasn't trying to simulate Gus, he used more than one bottle.

In reply to:
PCA'd a shop dummy

I guess thats a little better than when he PCA'd his rig with only the chest strap to weigh it down....

Dan I bet you were waiting for someone else to post this weren't you? But you had to do it yourself in the end. Gutted.

Matt/Weathergirl/Mac I'll have you know that I'm very sensitive about my weight, thanks for the public humiliation and for making me feel bad.

Wink

Well done on making the jumps Dan.
Both must have been much harder to do during the day as well.

'How' you made them is the part under criticism here...
Looking at the photo credits , it was a Staff Photographer for the Kent Paper...so I assume you courted the press ahead of the event.
Whilst you wont be the first (or last ) UK BASE jumper to get the press involved in your activities for your own gain.....you dont have the best rep with other UK jumpers so you were always going to 'get it'...you must have realised that.

Would suggest that if you are going to use the media...YOU get the source material and choose who gets it...and what they get.
Would also suggest (again) you reconsider the dayblaze thing....unless its on an object/opportunity where its absolutely necessary....all you do is ruin opportunities for everyone else and trash your reputation in this community.

Would like to hear what your motivation was for doing this....?
Fame?...money? or two fingers back up at those who give you a hard time.

For what it's worth, the shop dummy thing was me just busting his chops for being a total spastic.

To his credit the dummy weighed down with bottles episode (at the very least) reveals a scientific approach (albeit faulted) to his planning. He may not have realised that heading reliability would be inconclusive using such tests but he will have learned something: that a canopy can be extracted in that altitude and that he shouldn't expect long canopy flights.

As crazy and humerous a mental image as it is - him dragging a shop dummy wearing a parachute and numerous 2 litre coke bottles filled with water attached, along the emergency lane of one of ther south easts busiest motorways in broad daylight, before PCA'ing it into the mudflats - it is at least preferable to him just jumping the thing on a wing and a prayer and frapping in.

And judging by the two press articles of late he at least did a good job and landed without incident.
