When I lived there security was (and probably still is) usually in the hands of a bunch of gypsies. Those are the guys you want worry about. The police is your best friend once those gypsies get their hands on you ;-)

As far as the locals: Your man in Barcelona will be over in Switzerland skiing during you first few days. I'll PM you his details anyway as he will probably be up for some fun once he's back.
