I'm in...
Hello World!

Since I realized that my sweetest dreams aren't about flying, which should be kind of normal for me as a paragliding pilot, but are about running off a cliff, falling without hitting the ground, I'm about to move to BASE jumping.

I got well informed by articles on this page (good job!) and other webpages as well.
I'm searching contacts to get in touch with it in RL. I'm living in southern germany, probably anybody living next to my door is reading this, or probably you know somebody around here?

happy landings.

ps.
I called some guys which are listed at base-jump.de, but it seems as if they're not that addicted as I am right now Wink No one'll jump before easter... can't believe that

Re: [TomAiello] I'm in...
thx!
Didn't know about that one.

A question by the way... do you use your BASE equipment sometimes to do skydives?

The legality of that will vary depending on your jurisdiction. I'd ask someone local to you to find out if it's allowed. If it is, then yes, it's a nice thing to do for some practice.

In Germany you can jump it from a plane: Your Equipment had to be approved in Germany and had to be air worthy. Further more you need a reserve. So you have two options:

1. Just put your certified chute in a large student rig. Or
2. Hook up a reserve in front of you.

I prefer #1, because the only front reserves for base rigs I know are round...

But knowing your canopy and having lot of practice under it is a very good idea. And think of balloon jumps too.

Here in germany are only 2 base tarps do have a "Musterzulassung"
The Fox vented/unvented an the Troll/Troll MDV. (if you have the need to skydive with it)

....and i doubt that the guys from base-jump.de jump only eastern.

The german VDO BASE preparation program is one from the hardest in the world and (in your own interest) should be managed first!

Re: [Waldschrat] I'm in...
.....the hardest in the world. Mahle only does the course in the winter. All students have to sleep outside, wrapped up in their canopies, wake up at 0400 in the morning and climb the local chimney to get used to climbing (and of course climb it down again)...after that its of to the class room with mandatory examens: less than 100% and you failed - Then they have to perform 50 pack jobs slider up and 50 pack jobs slider down. Not much sleep at night, cause they have to Groundcrew whenever they can......
so overall, i would rather call it intense.......Sly

Well, any news about it, and I'll get some training lessons in carrying stuff up to the 40th floor, 400ft antenna or 4000ft cliff :-)

...you have forgotten the swimming lesson: after getting up at 400 you have to swim 50 lanes in the pond...;-) ...with clothing and a dummy gear...

Serious: I think Mahle is a real bad ass in educating - but I really appreciate that!

Oh shit, please don't tell Mahle - I going to do the tandem course in spring with him... I see myself in the pond...;-)

Cheers, Ingo

that's not totally correct! since you dont need to have a tso on main canopies anymore you can jump any canopy you want at official events or even for a skydive (if you really want to). the canopy just needs to be inspected by a rigger (fallschirmtechniker) who says it's airworthy.
but you still need the tso on your rig!!!
