Wilderness First Responder
Hey guys,
I took the WFR back in January and loved it. It was an amazing course/experience. I just wanted to advise it to everyone. You are trained on wound management (I've seen 2 pretty good slices with razor wire - one requiring stitches), splinting (I've seen quite a few leg/ankle injuries), long term patient care, patient assessment, etc. I didn't have much medical experience prior to it, and I really walked away with a lot. I also see how careless I've been without a first aid kit in the car. If anyone is interested, I would highly recommend it. The link below has all of the information:

If anyone has any questions, I'd be glad to answer them. I feel bad I didn't take this course sooner.

Here are some pictures from it:

I have my WFR as well, and I can tell you how much you will learn in 8 days. The course its an amazing experiance you will walk away with a much better understanding of wilderness/backcountry medicine. The best part is all of that knowledge applies in an urban setting too, especially if you want to be able to deal with a problem yourself instead of calling 911.

I took mine with wilderness medical associates there website is www.wildmed.com

It ranges from $500-$800'ish. It was offered through my school so I got a small discount. There are a few places that offer it as well. I took mine through Landmark Learning.

I just took a WFR course last week in Moab. I was really bummed that I was the only base jumper there. Base is a really wide skill set. I think this course should be a part of every ones education before ventureing into the back country.
