"Die Basejumper von Lauterbrunnen"

[translation]

"Will I die basejumping? Probably." Basejumpers have their own views of life. Lauterbrunnen, located in the Berner Oberland, is one of the greatest attractions for extrem-parachutists all over the world. The movie, produced by Michael Bühler, provides an insight in a wold in which everything's about the droug adrenaline.

Parachuting from buildings, spans and cliffs: Basejumping is likely the most dangerous sport, that exists. Last fall three people died in doing so in Lauterbrunnen, Berner oberland. However an increasing number of basejumpers come from all over the world to jump from the cliffs.
Athletes who prepare every jump meticulously and who risk their lifes for an adrenaline kick. Those who have lost their friends at basejumping, and still continue to jump and those who are convinced they will die basejumping one day. A waitress who does a quick jump before going to work. A bank clerk, who quit his job in order to have more time for jumping. And the Swiss base-pioneer Ueli Gegenschatz, who uses a wingsuit to fly further than anyone could ever have imagined. But in the narrow valley there are not only those who see the "valley" as a huge playground, but also the local farmers who's fields are being used as places to land. Two worlds collide. The documentary, "Die Basejumper von Lauterbrunnen", made by Michael Bühler, observes these two worlds. It shows spectacular jumps, but also what can happen when accidents occur.

kurz]
"Werde ich beim Basejumpen sterben? Vermutlich schon."

Zwei Welten prallen aufeinander

@ those who have already seen it: Is it a good documentary? What's your impression?

-The movie made by Michael Bühler shows the world of the basejumpers in which everything revolves around the drug adrenalin.

That was just the short part though.

My parents saw it (they watched it because I told them too) and the only thing my mum said afterwards is that if I ever start doing it not to tell her. She said it was really good but I suppose she couldn't understand how you could risk your life to do it.

Re: [Hausse] Base documentary
Well I just told my dad that I'm going to start basejumping and he accepted it - probably because he doesn't know much about it. Now I wonder if he'll change his mind if he sees this documentary Unsure. I'll have to wait and see. It's probably better if he gets an impression what Basejumping actually is about.

Hey thanks for the link I just watched it (I'm in the US so I couldn't watch it on TV before) and I thought it was a really good show. It ended kind of morbid but I suppose that's just how it is.

For all the other people: It is mostly in Swiss German so unless you are Swiss there is probably little sense in watching it since there are not that many special stunts or something else that would make it worth while for people who don't understand the context.

Yeah that's what I meant there are some pretty nice Swiss accents (the farmer) in there. I doubt that anybody who does not understand Swiss-German will have any clue what he's talking about.Wink

Hi hannes1
HaHa!
I actually live in Bavaria, Everyone knows that The Bavarians are not German, They are descendants of aliens from another world near Alpha Bavari, 4.2 light years away. They do not even speak German. They have a totally different language and culture that no one else understands and the fastest autobahns in the world. They also have weird history such as home of the Illuminati, the Pope and 1200 breweries brewing some of the most fantastic brews in the world.
Take care,

Re: [Hausse] Base documentary
maybe they have translated the Swiss German to normal German for the German TV channel 3sat. I think that even the People who speak German as a first language have a hard time understanding Swiss German.

Re: [biker117] Base documentary
Yeah they must have. I'm half German and none of my German realatives understand any Swiss German and they are used to it by now.

I had forgotten how difficult Swiss-German is to understand! My last trip there was in winter '89 to jump onto the mountain, ski all day and then jump back into Air Glacier. My first of 3 trips was in winter '86. I remember freefalling past the walls into the valley humming it down and thinking, "Damn, those walls are high enough to jump!"Wink
