Freebags
I´ve been doing some research with a Safety Star packed without a slider into it´s regular freebag and with a 50kg load I´m getting depoyments in 43ft (filmed)

I guees I´d like to hear some opinions about using freebags for assisted jumps.

Thanks

Re: [manchuso] Freebags
Why do you want to use a freebag?

Re: [manchuso] Freebags
not a horrible idea, but...

I think Marta with Apex was doing those before my time. she stopped for a reason.

how's any different than a direct bag ?

Re: [vid666] Freebags
maybe he is talking about a Static line with a freebag. the speed of the direct bag, without the reliability of the fixed extraction heading.

Re: [Calvin19] Freebags
Thanks for the replies.

That´s right, the tests I´ve done are static line.

I do not know about direct bag. I´ve searched the articles on gear and couldn´t find info about it. How does it work and why its more reliable.

All advice is welcome.

Re: [manchuso] Freebags
Man, DBs are out there for ages. Better check with some Pros and don't try this alone at home :-)

Attached you find a DB fotoserie with a classic FOX 245 WL 0.83 at sealevel (of course :-) done in January 2000.

Johan Verfoort even did 20-22m for GO FAST meanwhile.

kind of like when a holder drops your dbag which is still anchored to the exit point ? :)

Or maybe he will just realizing that putting handles on the freebag will solve the issue. (alternatively attach it at 2 corners, or just use a REALLY wide bridle)

oh wait, perhaps this thread is about reinventing the wheel :)

Re: [Mahle] Freebags
Thank you for the pixs.

No pros around! But I don´t want to reinvent the wheel... That´s why I´m asking you people; the knowledge is there and you´re the ones who have it. The direct bag approach looks very nice for low altitude jumps and low altitude is what I have available here in Uruguay. Any more advice?

Thanking you all once more, manchuso

Direct Bag
I have read an article on using DB for
deployment and briefly owned one but
have not seen one used so please
take my thoughts lightly...

A canopy gets crammed when placed
into a skydiving d-bag. Direct bags are
much larger just like the pack tray of a
BASE rig.

Since the canopy can be put in the DB
with less manipulation it has a better
chance of being extracted symmetrically.

Also, the bag typically has both a lanyard
for attaching to a strong point as well as
2 handles with labels for someone to hold it.

From geometry we know 2 points determine
a line, while having only allows for rotation.

Impressive!

Re: [GreenMachine] Freebags
direct bags provide the quickest openings (for an already packed canopy) that are possible. The lowest jumps that I know of using the DB system is 95 feet over ground. water towers are commonly jumped using direct bags, or at least used to be.

the sleeve is a variation on the direct bag and is used in the Sorcerer rig. however, the sleeve was used for a period with base rigs but they turned out to cause a number of problems. there were a number of major accidents associated with extraction of the long bag from a base rig.
