I hit 1000 last summer, and in south of France some guys are jumping a lot too ... and some of them may have reach 1000 without telling anybody (French Style).
Around here, doing 150 - 200 cliff jump a year is a "normal" season

Yuri, Martin from Sweden, Bart from Belgium... Surely some Germans and Norgies are over 1000 and I would guess that Johnny Utah would be there as well ? And as it has been mentioned earlier there probably are plenty of people around jumping lots that never post on (any) of these forums and keep low profile on their jumping other ways as well. I'd guess there are at least 20 maybe 30-40 jumpers worldwide on four digit jump numbers.

What an impressive accomplishment for all the make it. When I started back in 1992, my mentor Steve Morrell told me that BASE was a finite sport and that NO ONE would ever live to make a 1000 jumps. How wrong he was!

Jean-michel Peuzin(france) was not put to the list yet.

You have to keep in mind that people who don't log their jumps (I assume this is most people) almost always think they have far more jumps than they really do. Also, the debate over what actually counts as a base jump would change this list a lot. Do you count unpacked jumps? What about using base gear out of a plane? If base gear out of a flying machine counts then I'm over 1000 but I don't believe that should count.
I like the idea of the 1000+ club but it will never be accurate because the definition of a base jump is different for everyone.

books once I hit 1,000 and now just use
an Excel spreadsheet with different tabs
for each year and seperate one for BASE.

yeah, i stopped logging years ago. based on a year-to-year average number of jumps, I guestimate. I personally don't think plane jumps with base gear should count, nor should unpacked jumps.

For me also jumping from a airplane is not a BASE jump... It has to be from a fixed object, no matter how you do it, packed or unpacked does not matter. With one exeption: if you jump the potato bridge, only the first 30 or so jumps are allowed to be logged and count. But then again, if you did do 4 jumps before 08:00 am and hiked them all out, they count (Tom M. deserves to stay on this list :-)

I count my unpacked jumps. Its base gear, you are jumping off a fixed object, there is a slight amount of freefall involved, you have to fly and land a base parachute. Do PCAs count then? Why would you draw the line at at closed container?
If unpacked jumps shouldn't count, especially off low objects that one couldn't do otherwise unless with a PCA, then would you also say that huge 4,000 foot, overhung cliffs are a skydive and shouldn't count?

I think too, as long as you jump off a fixed object but certainly not from airplane/baloon.
There are just different ways to get to 1000, the easy way or the hard way!

I agree with pete. Although and unpacked jump with a skydiving canopy hooked up to a ground launching setup, now should I count that as a base jump? Ive promised a very close loved one that I would stop when I get to 1000. If youre on that jump with me, ill hand you my gear and walk away.

If a loved one makes you promise to stop doing something that makes you happy then you should teach them (or should I say HER) some hard love and tell her to learn how to be a good person by not forcing promises out of loved ones. A true loved one would never make you promise that.

technically, if it's not a B, A, S, or E, by definition it is NOT a BASE jump!

gosh, what a whiney thread. anyway, it's how you want to count it for yourself. a 1000 jumps is an incredibly laudable feat and i applaud anyone in this elite class.

personally i dont care much about jumpnumbers....jumping the same object over and over is borring,,,its more fun to collecting objects,,,and pca and unpacked is and will always be a basejump, if you leaping an object... it is a basejump!!!!!

I tend to agree with what 460 posted. it seems to stem from people chasing "status." however they choose to define it. some probably missed the sarcasm of my last post.

I have one, simple goal in this activity...
to survive the next jump.

nothing else really matters. solo. bigway. static line. freefall. skiing. naked. wingsuit. object.

if I stop having fun, I'll stop jumping. if I keep enjoying it, I'll end up with numerous fond memories of crazy stuff, amazing objects, wonderful friends, and over 1000 jumps.

even then, I suspect I'll still want to survive the next one!

the best move might be to stop logging. don't count anything. don't focus on your past. live for the future.

I'm not serious, your sarcasm is obvious. I've jumped from tandems, hang gliders and airplanes using BASE gear, those were interesting skydives. I Tarded a skydiving parachute off a bridge. I guess it's not a BASE jump but a ground launch? Who knows, it was far more dangerous.

Is it true that in Germany, fixed object jumping is now classified as skydiving? Nothing counts anymore if that's the case (obligitory smiley guy ==> )

Take that as criteria and all speed gliding and paragliding will be base jumping too, leaving a fixed object with a parachute.
