Re: [panavision] Tokyo
When I flew into Japan I had a 6hr layover, so I headed to Naritisan Temple.
Here is a quote from my journal from that trip:

I had a 6 hour layover in Narita (near Tokyo, Japan), so I decided to get out of the airport and see some of Japan. I choose to go to Naritasan Park and Shinshoji Temple, Narita. I walked all over the park, from the temples, and schools to the ancient graveyard. There are miles of trails and I walked only a few.
There was one strange thing that happened to me while there. I found a temple and walked to the lowest point and saw stair on both sides going up to a point in the middle that lead up to the top. In between was a fountain and higher than that was a spot that had 3 lions; those fountains were not working. There was also a sloping trail for those needing easier access. I choose to walk the many steps up to the top. When I got to the fountain I took a few pictures and then headed up the center stairs. Note that I had about 50 lbs of stuff that I was carrying from the plane as carry-on with me this whole time. When I get to the top of the stairs at the base of the temple I turned around and fountains were now not working on the main fountain at the very bottom. Maybe my journey there was now complete? Note sure, but I felt accomplished and maybe a little enlightened.
Below is a little about the temple:
QUOTE from http://www.naritasan.or.jp/
"Naritasan Shinshoji Temple
Naritasan Shinshoji Temple is the main temple of the Shingon Sect of Chizan-ha Buddhism. Founded by Archbishop Kancho in the third year of Tenkei (940 a.d.), the temple is dedicated to Fudo Myouou, the god of fire; the image of which was carved and consecrated by Saint Kobo Daishi. Since its foundation, Shinshoji has attracted many followers of the Fudo faith, and is visited by about ten million people a year."
