BASE Documentary
Howdy.
I am interested in making a documentary about base jumping and am looking for base jumpers in the Los Angeles area as well as people who are going to do their first jumps in Idaho this spring. The documentary will not sensationalize the discipline but rather will attempt to answer questions about it's history, the reasons for it being illegal, and the motivation of the jumpers. I already have a few contacts for this (my 'base mentor' and the guy who taught him) but am looking for more. If you are interested please pm me and we can take it from there.

Sincerely VS
PS I am not a cop and can provide references to prove that.

Re: [plutoniumsalmon] BASE Documentary
VS,

I'm not sure where your info has come from up to now, but with very few exceptions and locales, the act of BASE jumping is not illegal.

Your project is already coming off as having a sensationalist tilt to me. Unsure ...after all, it is BASE jumping.

Re: [JSBIRD] BASE Documentary
The documentary will in part focus on why you cant legally jump places like El Cap or big tall buildings and not depend on footage of people jumping those sites. One of the subjects of the film will be the question of why one could take a motor cross bike and pretty much try to jump any hill or dune with it and why cant one jump a public owned cliff bridge or whatever. And it is true that it is difficult to escape the sensationalist tilt but at no point will it be about people breaking themselves or getting caught up in some nasty situations. They will be presented as the possible outcome of ones actions with a very serious approach. What I am going for I guess is the Billabong Odyssey kind of feeling.

Hope this clarifies some things.

Sincerely VS

If you want to make a documentary about legal and illegal base jumping, you should go to europe Switzerland, Italy, France, and Norway if you want to talk about legal acces to El Cap etc! Get footage from legal events from Malaysia, Germany, China for buildings jumps, and Im sure there is footage from some events in Vegas to! You can not make a balanced documentary with out bringing in the bad stuff.

or downtown LA

LA is a bad example. No BASE jumps have ever taken place there.

Why's that?
