Aah yes, the JA incident. That's probably the most sensationalized version of this incident I have seen to date. From the other reports, it didn't seem nearly as sensationalized - the rescuers arrived on scene and thought long and hard about how they can best deal with this situation.
More links follow. It was unusual to hear a news anchor report that a base jumper was hanging from her station's transmitter.

Where did your clip originate? Do you know what show it was from? Sounds like one of those "FOX Crazy Amazing Extreme Disaster Things Caught on Tape VII"
Some of the news videos are pretty annoying. Particularly how they keep saying that BASE jumping is illegal, and how they keep calling it a 'guide wire'. It is a guyed tower, but they are called 'guy wires'.

How did he get so much into debts? He says he has nearly a million. Is it from BASE accidents?

Good question. I was wondering that myself. From the videos, they gave estimated costs for parts of the rescue. It could have added up to maybe 100k tops, but nowhere near 1M.
Does anyone know what became of John after this incident? Is he still around? Jumping?

It sounded like it wasn't his first so maybe that was just the pile of from previous accidents. He said he was in a koma for 15 days that could be very expensive.
