In the 82nd Airborne, they had a saying that "there are no athiests in a foxhole". So before each jump, I pray to my gods at ApexBASE and it's turned out dandy for several hundred jumps.

Re: [freeflychris] Pre jump rituals
I like to go through in my head everything that has to go correctly for the jump, I basically reverse-engineer everything in the packjob, (I try to actually remember doing 3 things vividly; Brake stows, tailgate, and Pin closure check) then look at the winds, memorise where there might be a wind shadow, or rotor, and alongside picking a landing area, I find the places where i CANNOT land. I also try to take a picture, if convenient and safe enough to do so.

its not really a ritual, just a checklist. but as a a really good jumper taught me, just before every jump, take a deep breath, try to relax, and execute. "Nice, and Smooth."

Re: [freeflychris] Pre jump rituals
Hey..... nice post.....

I do gear+winds check, than landing areas (for a new jump, check landing first if possible) , make my A plan, B plan, C.....

After that I try to imagine about malfunctions and what to do with them on the object I am.....

Then deep breath, think everything is gonna be fun, and enjoy the ride.......

On 2-3-4-n ways I just gear check and focus on the briefing, everything else (safe margin) should be considered BEFORE put myself into a big load........

That's just me..... but I am curious to hear other rituals, I am sure everybody have one.........

I drink...a lot. Patron in the summer - Jager in the winter.

I have a cool pewter flask that I take on every new object.

Don't judge me.

Bitches.

I do the exact same thing. Then i start thinking .. "Did I do the brakes properly?? Did I set the tailgate?? Did I make it slider (up/down)?? etc."

Same as the above two posts, then I make sure that nate goes first so he doesn't make it a surprise two-way Wink

You're not the only one buddy. Tongue

I mentally rehearse my course of action and where I want to head to in the case of an ideal jump, a lefty, righty, 180, hesi, ...

Oh, then I tell myself "I'll know why I'm doing this in 3..2..1...."

Re: [Carpediem] Pre jump rituals
I spit on my hands and rub em together....alot.
I started doing it to make them more , well, 'sticky'...as it made me feel better about grabbing the PC.
Excuse the pun...but the habit has just kinda 'stuck' and I'm doing it subconciously now....although when I look at other peoples video it makes me laugh how much I'm doing it :)

I dont get many 'high fives' though before I jump....they tend to turn into 'right on brother' closed fist touches....just before contact is made.Laugh

Re: [freeflychris] Pre jump rituals
I usually call my girlfriend, then gear up, check my gear, put it on, get a gear check, high five, check the conditions, exit, LZ, wait for the cops and other traffic to leave, 321 c-ya.

I usually call Brian's girlfriend, then gear up, check my gear, put it on, and then ask Brian to help me insert my butt plug. Then I jump, and stuff.

yeah, ocd is is way a bitch ...
such an appropriate time to apoligize to everyone who has ever jumped with me
but out side of that it's all totally normal ;p

Re: [freeflychris] Pre jump rituals
I usually puke quite a bit. Especially on A's, don't know why, but an A is sure to turn my stomach over.

Re: [freeflychris] Pre jump rituals
Nowdays I lick my gloves :) mostly to avoid high five's

Back in the day my buddies said that I said "okay, right" if I was scared and I'm always scared ... did not bother me but I do realise that it can be anoying after a few hundred jumps.

Some guys like to shit all over the place before they jump.
Here's how can avoid those shitting attacks:

Just jump!! When you land you don't have to shit anymore. Jesus...

Re: [Lavielle] Pre jump rituals
ghehehe...

yeah, that's why my ritual is to watch every fuckin' step when i'm gearing up.
and i can confirm: just jump!
the desire will be gone after landing.

Re: [] Pre jump rituals
I try to pre-visualize before I get to the exit point. Go over my packjob, through the exit, deployment, landing, and my buddies exit, deployments and landings. Think about rescue, communication, Wx conditions, etc.
If there's time, I usually try to think of Uncle Hanky in his dolphin shorts and rub one out. Guaranteed 180 protection juju.

Re: [pope] Pre jump rituals
close.

THATS what you need to rub on your hands to make the PC grab stick.

Re: [freeflychris] Pre jump rituals
* Double check my gear
* Review the jump plan, landing area, and out
* Mentally prepare for off-headings, visualize what they would look like, how I'd respond.
* Mentally prepare for other malfunctions, what they'd look like, feel like, and how I'd handle them.
* If I can I like to do a 'dry-run' of the jump. i.e. take a few steps, do an exit just like a plan to (head up, chest out), consider my delay do a practice pull, meanwhile thinking about what it will look and feel like.
* Step out onto the exit point and, as always, ask myself "If I die in the next few seconds, am I okay with the state in which I'll have left my life?" If the answer is "no" (and it has been) I walk off the object. Otherwise, I take a deep breath, smile widely and run off the edge!
