 Hello,

There are a couple slots open for the 2008 Baffin Expedition.

The trip is from May 2nd through May 22nd. Cost is $5500 USD which includes all transportation from Ottawa, and food and drinks prepared by the team cook, as well as all team equipment.

Team members will be responsible for bringing all individual cold-weather gear (down parka, sleeping bag, etc...) and jumping equipment but we will provide the rest.

Last year we spent 16 days camped at the base of a 3500 foot overhung wall.

Must have significant and solid exit, terminal, and tracking abilities.

For those who need a little motivation, here are some pics from the Baffin Island 2007 expedition... truly a trip of a lifetime. Where else do you have polar bears acting as bouncers for an exit?

If you look closely, you can just make out camp at the base of Kiguti... kinda nice camping at the base of an overhanging 3200' wall. And that's the warm-up wall!

HOLY CRAPOLA!

I think I'll start working an extra job to make some cash to go to this paradise!!!

We just had a slot open up on our trip. One of our jumpers just got injured and won't be able to make it on the trip this year.

If you think you can join us, get in touch with me. It's pretty short notice, but the trip is well worth it if you can make it happen.

Team flies out of Ottawa on May 1st and returns May 23rd.

For anyone interested, the 2008 Baffin Expedition was a huge success.

We had a strong team, great weather, and the motivation to make some impressive things happen.

I'm not totally sure (we're still trying to piece it all together) but I believe we jumped 11 cliffs, 15 different exit points, and made a combined total of 96 jumps with zero injuries.

I'd like to personally thank the team for making good decisions, playing it safe-ish, and having great attitudes and adventurous spirits.

We jumped a few cliffs I've been dreaming about for a decade. Among them were:

Kiguti
The Beak
Chinese Wall (5000')
Ottawa Peak (4300')
Polar Sun Spire (4600' ...I think)
Walker Citadel
Broad Peak (5700' ...Rich?)
French Touch
Great Cross Pillar
"That wall behind Kiguti"
Another wall near Kiguti (Rich what are we calling that thing? Co-Pilot?)

and I'm sure I'm forgetting some.

We had weather I never could have wished for nor expected. We had about eight consecutive sunny and windless days and plenty of jumpable days that were less ideal but still good.

Nobody got eaten by a Polar Bear!

Thanks to Collin and Richard for getting the advanced party work done and setting up that giant tent.

2009 should be pretty interesting...

Surely it couldn't have been that simple. I mean, we had a couple engineers, riggers, medical types, and even a fighter pilot working on it.

If anyone reading this is confused...hehe... Collin left a laptop with us in camp...

so... imagine a laptop... now imagine not a laptop...

We couldn't figure out how to get past this interesting blue screen thing so we must have burned $30 in international satellite phone calls to all of our friends who are computer guys... interestingly enough, none of them were home.

For those of you who like to earn your altitude the hard way, here are some hike times. The low end of the range is for a pre-set trail in good snow conditions. The hi end is the poor bastard who has to go first to break trail. I'd like to say we took turns breaking trail, but that would admit to accepting help from the French (thanks Alex, Arnot, Marc, Remi!). FYI, if you ever get invited on a hard hike with the French, jump on it. Those guys kicked trail in bad conditions faster than anyone could keep up... they're machines!

Thank you Chad and Katie for making this trip happen again Your work and efforts may only be truly understood by a few behind the scenes, but the adventure is enjoyed by all. It truly is a basejumper's paradise. Count me in for next year!
