We pulled up in the car like 1 minute after the end of this vid while the dude was still in the tree. We watched the replay of the vid on the camera, then I went up and flicked my first E.... yeah, I was scared. Shocked

Yellow Line.....

Good advice about re-packing PC every time, you can't risk it, especially in Moab.

Who made that PC ? cause there was an issue/concern with a batch of ZP that one of the manufacturers used like 2-3 years ago ?

I'm glad I got to see this footage again--I haven't seen it since Sept. It really is incredible that he made it ok--sorry I have such a foul mouth Blush My comment about "head for the water" cracks me up after the fact--as if he would be too proud to go in the water, he didn't even have time to make it to the water if he wanted to! It's hard to tell, but the original view finder clearly showed his PC hesitation as it jumped from right to left before it FINALLY inflates. Thanks for taking my breath away Hamish! Sly oh yeah, and I'm not lucky enough to be his girlfriend. Tongue

Freaking idiots...
I am not talking about the jumper. He probably knows he screwed up and got a good scare out of it imagining himself bounce...

I am talking about the viewers who "cheer" his fuck up with "yehaaaa's and whoo'ooo's"

YEP.. Be all the BU'BBA rednecks you can be!Crazy

Sure your reaction would have been different had you seen the guy bounce in front of you!!

Nothing cool about this vid but the fact that a poor guy survived a fuck up!

I think that there is a miscommunication here. What I got from the vid was that they were cheering his survival of the fucked situation. I've watched people almost go in because of a problem and the canopy opened in the last seconds. I yehaa'd too. It is such an amazing thing to see. One is so happy that there was not carnage. That is what you were seeing IMHO.
Take care,

Was that Hamish that was in Perris for a long while?

Re: [78RATS] another youtube vid
I've done them, but now I think it is really silly. My opinion is that stowed from lower altitude/air speed increases probability of off heading.

I don't think there's a consensus. You can get away with it many times, it's just that when things go wrong, it doesn't leave you a lot of room to work with. For me, these days, that's handheld territory. Unless there are extenuating circumstances at the exit point that make going stowed the better choice, at that altitude I like the security of having my pilot chute in hand. It allows me to enjoy the jump more completely, rather than being all amped up about getting the PC out.

A question from a noob: Why would you repack a PC?

The material tends to develop a "memory"and hold it's position. A PC that's been left packed for a while is more likely to hesitate. On stowed jumps where you cannot afford a hesitation you're usually best off to leave the PC unpacked and then pack it as close to exit as possible (or, better yet, just go handheld). As another option, some people leave the PC packed, then extract it, "fluff" it, and re-pack it just before they put the rig on.

Re: [Hausse] another youtube vid
The other advantage to leaving the pc out is that it saves the boc pouch. You will have to have it replaced much sooner by leaving it stowed all the time. Our bigger pc's tend to stretch the things out of shape. Packing the pc on site or shortly before the jump will diminish the paranoia somewhat and save the pouch. After a while you get used to packing it while shaking...Unimpressed
