Re: [Waldschrat] don't have a clue (russian TV-Report)
That is one of several TV reports about the jumps done a few months ago from the Ostankino tower. Other links are:
here and the long (3 minute) report is
here. Original event thread
here.
I am under the impression that the fall was not fatal.
The headline reads "Sportsman 'smashed himself' jumping from Ostankino tower". Which is a bit misleading, since the word they used generally implies a fatal impact, and other reports from the same TV station say the man suffered a trauma.
Translation of the text beneath video is below. The audio commentary matches the text pretty much dead on.
"Today's base jumper show, which took place in Moscow on the Ostankino tower, demonstrated its reputation for the extreme. One of the parachutists could not pick up his lines [assuming: grab toggles?] during landing to slow down, and hard a hard landing when he hit the ground.
Medics standing by during the show gave first aid and immediately transported the victim to a hospital. He is believed to have suffered a serious trauma.
The 'lovers' of parachute sports from extremely low heights gathered today at the Ostankino tower this morning. As a launching point they used the so-called 'technical balcony' at the height of 367 meters. The event was almost canceled due to heavy fog, but it later dissipated and hundreds of the city's inhabitants saw a truly breathtaking show.
Tens of experienced base jumpers [so pronounced, literally], having conquered many different types of difficult objects, participated in the show. As the participants themselves say, for them each jump is a massive release of adrenaline, which cannot be compared with any other kind of sport.
The extreme sportsmen dedicated today's event to the 40th anniversary of the construction of the Ostankino tower, as says NTV."
Sorry for the rough/rushed translation, but there it is.
Another russian TV report said this happened due to "lines crossing over" which I am guessing means he had a line-over.
More detailed information about the jumper himself would be nice. Yuri - have you got any info?
