Costa Rica
Hello all,

I'm heading to Costa Rica in a few weeks for a surf trip.
Is it worth bringing my baserig? -> all I heard is about a famous S, but landing looks impossible...
Any locals here?

FWIW when I was there a few years back I got no advice, and did not spot anything doable.

good luck !

Yes take your rig if you want to make some jumps. There are a few down there. This should get you started.

A 300 foot bridge outside of San Jose *hint look for the bungee outfitters they use it as well. landing is tight must land in small area on the side of the river if the current is slow there may be crocks looking for food but if the river is moving they will be somewhere else, also you don't have to walk out the bungee guys will pull you up with the wench if you want.

There is also a 700 foot zip line jump as well big flat landing area surrounding a crock pond (again) cool jump worth the trip.

I did not see a single crock while I was there but I was told to watch out my suggestion would be to jump with a piece of raw chicken in your left hand and if you see one throw it at them and run like hell actually just ask a jumper from Florida they should know what to do.

figures... i move stateside for a minute and now everyone wants to visit.... I've always had the most fun in Jaco. 300' bridge 5 min off the highway from san jose, condo building ON the beach, and many cranes 160-190' also on the beach. Not to mention hermosa which has world class surf 10 min south, and home to most surfer/crocodile incidents! And unlike sinister, I saw a shit load of crocks there. Big saltwater beasts too, like 15 foot dinosaurs swimming right past you on the way to the next estuary.
Make sure you pick me up another bumpersticker while you're there. the best says:
Do your blow, or do your ho, the two don't go- Jaco, Costa Rica

Bring a laser, leave your slider, and remember this phrase: puedemos hacerlo en un otro manero? Say that and hold a $20 out to any police officer that stops you, you'll be fine.

Nr 667,

Why ruin a jump with an illegal bribe? Don't assume every official in Central America is corrupt. Cool

Not central america, Costa Rica. BIG difference. never(and would never) try a bribe in panama, but had one work in nicaragua all though it was 100 vs 20. only bribe that didn't work in CR was the time i took a piss in rush hour traffic down town SJ with the mayor and his family directly behind our truck. And the cop wanted to, but the mayor wouldn't leave till the vehicle was towed. No joke... I bribed my way out of a traffic stop w/an ounce of coke, lit blunt, speeding , open bottle of vodka between the seats, loaded pistol, and other items that i'm not comfortable mentioning on public forums. Only thing they confiscated was the coke, and that's because the officer planned on planting it on other drivers to extract more bribes. pretty safe to say that every official in costa rica is corrupt.... look out for the young cops, they still have a hard-on for justice.

Re: [mtnlion667] Costa Rica
heading to CR, probably Dominical area, early august... Any ideas?
Shortcut
Re: [kcollier] Costa Rica
depends how you go there. driving from SJ to the south or west you can end up in Atenas and the new highway there crosses a 300' bridge. that recently was done by another vacationing jumper, that little farm town is really getting used to us...

I never made it further south than manuel antonio on the west coast so i'm not familiar with dominical but I'm sure you'll have a great time!

If you end up going through Puntarenas ( probably a bit north for a dominical trip) look for the paragliders. I got to get off a tandem over the beach and they didn't even charge me for the ride.
