Sizing Chart for Apex DP?
I searched the Apex Base site and also searched in the forums but couldn't find anything. Just looking for the container size that Apex uses for a rig sized for a 220, 225 sized canopy. I.e. DP1, DP2 etc.

Thanks.

Re: [MagicGuy] Sizing Chart for Apex DP?
Apex DP1 h20 canopy
Dp2 fox185
dp3 fox 205
dp4 fox 225
dp5 fox 245
dp6 fox 265
dp7 fox 285
dp8 fox 315

For Firm go down one size.
So for a flik 220 / fox 225 DP4 for looser, DP3 for firm. I found it in the owner's manual.

i've got a dp4 and can get my flik 266 in there as well. and have jumped it that way.

i bought a 242 flik and Todd actually advised me to get the dp4. he thought i'd like it better and said i packed good enough so, but i'd give him a call. and not just take my word.

my jumping buddy who pretty much got the the same Flik 242 config as me had a dp3 made for his. he likes his snug fit, and he put plenty of terminal wingsuit base jumps with it and really thinks it's comfy.

if i get another container i'm going for the dp3 for my 242 flik. and keep the dp4 for 266 flik. and sell my dp6. I really like the way the top "corners" are filled with these "snug" set ups.

that being said lots of pack job pratice is key.

But i'd call todd at perris just to make sure.

I'd also like to add i love my FliK 242 with ZP front skin , man i didn't know what i was missing until i had that ZP put on the front. Wow! what i difference. Flare, glide, etc. all improved.
I guess every one with a ace/blackjuack already knows that?

Good point.

I have 2 apex dp6's... one with a flik 266, one with a rock dragon 266, both vented. Not hard to pack. I like them that way. I am happy with the way that pack up, fit and look and pin tension....

On the other hand, I have a friend with the same combination who clould put a 2nd flik in the same container if he felt like packing it up tight....

a lot of personal preference, as he could get by with a dp4 as well....

So it depends on your packing ability... oh, and maybe the fact that my black/red canopies pack up 'bigger' then his nice white and grey ones....Tongue

Nah...

as for the zp topskin, well I don't know yet... but I have a flik 182 on order with it... so we'll see if I need to put my other canopies in the classified section soon.......

um a FLiK 182? Does Apex make one? They do have a Fox 185. I actually thought about ordering a 220 (BUt settled on a 242) for certain "alpine" reasons but sub 200? i wouldn't feel too safe in a BASE enviroment with my wingloading. Could you elaborate?

Re: [ForrestJump] Sizing Chart for Apex DP?
It's not for the base enviroment. As tempting as it would be to buy a another DP for it... I like my big canopies for that sort of thing.....

It's to be my new wingsuit/skydiving toy. I want to try out a base canopy for regular wingsuit skydiving.

I want to see how much I'll like it / dislike it. This coupled with my V2 will make skydiving fun again in the spring.....

So after bouncing some ideas off Todd, I ordered a flick 182, ZP HTS, with a spectra lineset and tail pocket....

That way it'll hold up 'ok' in terms of wear and tear, and when I am pulling at 2k, I can leave the d-bag on, and not make the USPA or my DZO unhappy....

Now if I feel like going lower, well, I can easily drop the d-bag and free-pack it in my skydiving wingsuit rig and pull a *touch* lower.... Not at the dropzone of course....Tongue

To most, it's not worth it, but to me it is....

Some people will say, at that point why not take your BASE rig and just break the FAR's... Others say, why not just jump a normal skydiving rig and pull higher....

Well this is the compromise I decided on....

This is exactly the way I've been thinking lately. I just did a lowish jump from a Gyro-copter using my Spectre 120 with collapsible PC and it scared the life out of me. The PC did a huge hesitation and then the canopy took forever to deploy. I used to think this was all ok but I now want precise openings that I can trust especially when sucking it down. I'm an Ace/BJ fan so I'm going to ask Marty if he can make me a 200 sq/ft Ace with microlines.

Nice one, thanks!

What are your thoughts regarding line dump when using microlines with a tail pocket? I can't imagine a standard size tail pocket holding microlines as well as it would Dacron lines.

Re: [John_Scher] Sizing Chart for Apex DP?
Hey John-

The tail pocket is going to defiently be smaller, as not only are the lines a concern, but the pack volume as well, since it's going into my skydiving rig.

This combined with a good primary stow I believe should work out ok... If not, well, I am going to get spanked....

Re: [jdatc] Sizing Chart for Apex DP?
I Sure like this idea for the skydive enviroment but i've jumped freepack style a bit and have noticed not matter what i do i still get harder and faster openings compared to my BASE openings at full on terminal.

i'm thinking of ordering a sail slider for my freepacked skydive jumps?

BUT why not just go with dacron because spectra and free packed after awhile??

i understand if you don't think the packjob will fit but if it can id go for the dacron then?
Dacron just absorbs the shock better?

oh YEAH, are you mosty using your dbag or freepack?

good day

Re: [ForrestJump] Sizing Chart for Apex DP?
I'm going to start out with the small mesh slider and see how the opening are both free-packed and d-bagged.

My terminal base packjobs are nose open, with direct slider control and a zp 36... I'ver also taken a zp 42 to terminal once with the same packjob... ouch.Pirate

So I'm going to just have to gauge it when the season rolls around.....

As for the lines, it's a pack volume thing. I know that dacron is a better shock absorber and all, but I am more concerned about the volume then being knocked around...

As a plus side, I'll have to be really symmetrical in all my openings because there will be no 'forgiveness' like dacron, if I dip a shoulder and spin into line twists with the fast opening canopy.....

Lastly, I see this being about a 80% of the time d-bagged canopy at the dz, switched over to free pack only when I feel like going low, or just screwing around.... But initially, it will be free-packed quite a bit till I get it dialed in.

I'll be sure to keep you advised when it arrives.

Sounds cool. and i THINK it's worth it.

i WAS thinking about going over to Apex to get my sail slider maybe ill talk Todds ears off as usual.Pirate

ID actually talke to Todd a while ago about making a speacial Skydive/BASE canopy. something that worked better in both worlds and he'd said he'd been playin around with the idea for a while on his computer.

the canopy would be smaller and would be mostly for skydivig but made very simular to a BASE tarp.

Re: [jdatc] Sizing Chart for Apex DP?
Justin,

may I suggest some stow bands in the tailpocket or just Icon freebag/T10 style loops for the lines ? That would make alot more sense and take care of linedump issue without slowing down the opening. Afterall if Jumpshack thinks a speedbag is a grand idea, this will work even better

good luck. wish i had the money for a canopy "just to try it out"... fucking ATCs.

When I was talking with Todd about that kind of a thing, or baffles in the pocket, he said that it would most likely be unnecessary....

Now I'll probably screw up his reasoning, but anyway;

basically, he said that the weight of the lines agains't the tailpocket, wouldn't be too much force to make the pocket open...

Now if the tailpocket was super narrow, and there wasn't as much velcro holding the bottom closed with heavier lines, in that case a stow in the tailpocket is a good idea....

But we'll see. I like being a test dummy for stuff....

Also, talking to Todd at Apex is awesome. Everytime I've talked to him I've learned something. The guy is super knowledgeable and friendly. It's people like him, Jimmy and Marta that make me stick with Apex gear....

Hahaha, anyway, as for the ATC thing, I do have to go to work today at 3pm damn it... and 6 days a week the month of January cause of staffing.... Not too mention them fucking me out of my base trip to switzerland last June.......

But, the real reason I can get away with buying a canopy for this, well, I'm single... No GF or wife to bitch about me wasting money.....

Re: [jdatc] Sizing Chart for Apex DP?
You are going to love that setup for WS skydives I have a couple hundred on a similar setup. I cut dynamic corners in to the rig, PD 143 Reserve as a main canopy, Sail slider with a large coffee can sized hole in the center, 9' bridle, 32" vented Apex PC. Works like a charm every time dump in full flight and you are open in less than 100'.

Just remember if you are getting slammed on opening you can use your leg wing to help ease the whiplash effect of a full flight opening, this can take practice for some as you can induce line twists by leaving your leg wing open asymmetrically.

that's a rather harsh sacrifice... Bet you must really love BASE :) j/k

why did you not want to get an older PDR176 or Tempo 170 and just tailor it to open a bit slower ? Would be a shitload cheaper then a Flik. I am guessing that you wanted a same flight characteristics wing.... though I am not sure how much microlines, much smaller size and ZP skin will affect the flight characteristics - probably alot.
