Priming a velcro container.
Due to my current financial situation I'm stuck with the current container I have. Will upgrade with my next / first Lotto win to a pin container but until that happens can anyone offer any information on 'priming' a velcro container?

Cheers, and all the best for the upcoming festive season.

Re: [Rover] Priming a velcro container.
Just recently been doing a lot of testing with this one after some information I was given by a very trusted old time base jumper.

When I do S/L and I am not worried about an awkward exit point that may open my container, I pull the bottom and top flaps of my rig over the side flaps.... and stick the shrivel back on. This basically covers up half of the velcro. Works great on calming my mind.

Still prefer pin rig on S/L, velcro on 1-2s, and pin for the rest. :) Use my two rigs almost always in an alternate fashion.

There's a technique that won't work for solos, but:

If you bring a couple strips of 1" velcro or thinner, you can just mate the strips to the container so that it won't be able to mate to the shrivel flap.

Priming Velcro
Good luck with the lottery!

I have only primed someone else once but it
was fairly straight forward, just partially peel
the velcro around the edges a little bit but not
so much that the canopy falls on your feet.

Last night I reached back and fiddled with mine a
bit, just to ease [cartman] my fragile little mind
[/cartman] but it didn't matter cause the cops
stayed until my hands were numb.

because you (actually the 2nd person) do this at the exit point, as you don't want to climb with your shrivel barely holding

Didn't think about that,But for non-climbing objects it would work well...

Re: [Rover] Priming a velcro container.
I asked someone whose opinion I actually make the mistake of asking for from time to time the exact same question before my 1st sub 300'

And I quote:

"Just put the shrivel flap on and shut the fuck up. It'll open fine."

It did.

In an effort to protect the innocent...I will only tell you his initials are ABBIE MASHAAL.

Cheers.

How many sub 300 foot freefalls was he basing his opinion on? Aside from yours, I mean?

Re: [Rover] Priming a velcro container.
Just do a bunch of jumps and wear down the velcro. Then you pass the problem on to big delay jumps Wink

C'mon Tom...you know that answer.

Re: [Para_Frog] Priming Velcro
That is funny to me, cause I primed his
velcro before a jump at the Perrine Tongue

However, in his defense and to be honest
he did have one arm in a cast and was
taking a round into the drink.

Re: [GreenMachine] Priming Velcro
Have there been incidents where a velcro rig had a total? So where a properly assembled PC was not able to extract the canopy?

No, but there have been significant hesitations in some instances, and you can speculate that velcro holding "too tight" might have contributed.

I actually keep my old shrivel flap around for low freefalls with my velcro rig. That flap has something like 250-300 jumps on it.

I once reached back and "fiddled" with mine just a little too much and my canopy fell on the platform behind me.
Since then, I don't fiddle with the shrivel flap at the exit point with my rig on.

Re: [jonnylaw] Priming a velcro container.
the most arials ever done at bridge day was done with a velcro rig that was slambro.

the most flips from exit 6 at kjerag is 8 and that was done with a velcro rig by mark broderick.

the most flips from the big antenna in lodi was 10 gainers done by mark broderick and that was done with velcro.

I have done aggressive wingsuit flying offof big mountains with my velcro rig.

they ar good rigs. be proud.
