Re: [ironmule] Helmet: Sky Runner Integral Carbon Optik
I love mine. I've had it for a couple of years to use when swooping. They are big helmets for base jumping i think.

It seems it offers good peripheral vision for a full face helmet, but any comments regarding the protection ?

Re: [ironmule] Helmet: Sky Runner Integral Carbon Optik
I have one. I meant to use it on slider down jumps, but because I got a camerahelmet I haven't really gotten around to try it. I have used it on some ground launchin flights, and it does offer a very good periphera vision. Its a big helmet with a lot of padding and has very good protection. But because of the size I would only use it on lower jumps, and not bring it on long hikes. I also think the size of the helmet would cause a lot of drag on tracking/wingsuit jumps. Hope that helps.

check out the sixsixone "strike".. plenty of periph, and protection.

they make a crbon fiber model thats super lite, but its expensive.

aptly named as well.

Wow. I was expecting to see another carbon fibre skydiving helmet, but from the pics, at least, this thing looks like it might be good for more than a fashion statement...

To be clear, are we talking a pillowy-soft liner skydiving-helmet style, or denser crush material like one would find in a snowboarding or motorcycle helmet?

Edit to add: Probably old news to paragliders, but apparently this helmet has been tested to a standard, EN 966, which according to one site "[..] is a European testing standard specifically designed for helmets used for sport aviation. This standard includes tests for shock absorption, penetration resistance, and specifications for visibility and head mobility." That's certainly attractive.

no we are not talking pillowy soft liner like skydiving helmets. This is a paragliding helmet designed to withstand impact with the ground.

That's what I have (the strike), definitely recommended.

i have this helmet, the six six one. if anyone was interested on hearing about let me know.

Re: [livenletfly] Helmet: Sky Runner Integral Carbon Optik
Seems the six six one has a lot of fans. Good peripheral vision and maybe better protection than the sky runner integral.
What about the aerodynamic ? For longer delays, mountain bike helmet will certainly drag/noise more than a paragliding helmet. Can users of both six six one / sky runner integral share their thought on this point?

Re: [ironmule] Helmet: Sky Runner Integral Carbon Optik
HUGE DRAG COOEFICIENT. you wouldnt want to be tracking for your life in it. it offers great protection and i feel really comforted in it however 2 or more second delay slider down stuff it has shifted on opening and blocked my vision which was pretty fucked up. having to take the time to reach up and adjust the helmet is dangerous to say the least. i suggest getting it a size to fit very snug so this wont happen.
also it really bulky so fitting it in the stash bag or trying to keep things low key when getting to an exit point are difficult.

i like it alot but not for all jumps. the amount of protection it offers during a strike is un parreled. ie andrew k would have faired much better in a fullface, and prob ably wouldnt be here if he didnt have a helmet on.

thanks for your input on the six six one.

any comment on the drag coefficient of the sky runner integral?

I haven't had this problem - even on quite a spanky solid 3 seconds the other day, but my helmet is really well fitted. As livenletfly says, make sure the size you get is nice and snug.

That's my only gripe with the helmet, even though mine fits fairly easily, it is kinda awkward.

i have such a pea head even the small is kinda loose. im in the process of bulking up the liner to fit more snug.
having a helmet shift and cover my damn eyes while dealing with an off heading was quite exciting but id rather have the helmet a bit uncomfortable than have that situation happen ever again!
