Chicken! Tongue

kudos on climbing down. Solos are cool that way.
Did a crane with a buddy last night or rather early hours this morning. Been grumpy the whole day; too old for these stealth missions... then again I really needed that one.

Re: [GreenMachine] So Much To Learn...
The other point here is that you planned to do a static line, then changed the plan to a freefall. Why? You obviously had a reason to go for the S/L, so why suddenly throw those arguements out of the window?

Be careful on changing the plan - especially once left the exit point. You could hurt yourself. Not to say that this was the case this time (you may have had very good, calculated reasons), but something to watch for in the future.

Of course the only thing your profile says is that
you have been BASE jumping for 50 years. If you
really did start in 1957 then I am all ears for any
advice you may have to share sir, thanks

ohh yeah...i was NickDG`s mentor back in the days...i also learn him how to drink and write stupid post on internet..he got it all from me...so listen to me when i say base jumping is not dangerous, now. go and jump this shit of..and if there are cops on the ground..try to land on them.
And of course, im not joking..and i didn`t joke on the last reply either...im a very serious guy who doesn`t joke at anyone or anything..

Re: [GreenMachine] So Much To Learn...
Why were you going to SL in the first place? Was it merely comfort? Or were altitude or heading issues the reason?

If the reasons were altitude or heading, the "on-the-fly" change from SL to HH probably wasn't the brightest idea.

How could you not rig a SL where the PC wouldn't clear the object?

Aslo, if falling on approach to the exit point is such a concern, then you should have your PC configured appropriately for that fall or some means of arresting that fall. That means if you plan on going HH off a 200' exit point than you should have the PC in hand ready to go on climb out to the exit point...not stowed in the BOC.

Just my opinions.

Climbing down is fun... It is like having sex, but stopping before....

I have actually earned my BASE Climbdown number, if they issued such a thing, before I earned my real BASE. (by 24 hours, we came backTongue)

Back in the day we called it getting your "Chicken BASE" number.

Yes, I was already told by someone with a very low BASE number via PM the same thing...

And I'm very proud of mine. My chicken B involved sneaking back out past security in an active building.

So I said I earned my "climb down" BASE... Then I was told it was "Chicken BASE".

For clarification - does the true Chicken BASE require getting to the exit point, or just on or in the object with rigs ready to go? If so, I am not fully Chicken B'ed - as we bailed because of winds making overcoming an access problem have limited ROI, before we got to the exit point, but after getting on/in the object with rigs on our backs...

Just out of curiosity, and seeing where this thread is going: does anybody around there has a "got caught by the police base nr" or a "broke something base nr"? Cool

WARNING: A Newbie Tale of Woe

Well last night I made my fourth serious
attempt at jumping my same local object,
which would open it AND be my first solo.

So I drove by and checked the winds, then
I went home, had dinner, and checked the
winds online.

The forecast per two websites was good with
winds being 'Calm' till 2 AM or so then going
up to 1 MPH.

This time I was using a "Cell Ground Crew".
Got my gear together at home, drove there,
parked, easily gained access to the base and
started climbing.

Once up top I took a breather, looked around
for cops, wind indications, enjoyed the beautiful
view of lights from 300 feet up, and started to
decide on my exit point.

Originally I had planned to use a 'carry w/ me'
static line, even had it attached to two different
spots but finally decided I did NOT like it....
Partially the slim chance of my PC snagging
something but more because this particular
climb out to the exit point with my bridle
out just seemed too sketchy.

So I decided I would freefall it. Unpacked my PC
took the knot out of the bridle and repacked it, of
course I was going to go hand held but just in case
I fell getting to where I wanted to launch from.

Called my ground crew, got my rig on, took some
deep breaths, and started moving to the launch
point when the wind started to really blow.

I stood there and cursed the time I wasted and
realized if I had moved just a little bit faster I
would already be under canopy grinning like the
idiot I am. So I climbed down again! Oh well,
there is always next time.

Can i be honest and Tell you: Maybe you Really shouldn't be jumping by yourself at this time?

That aside, at the rate your walking away it leads me to believe you'd be better off jumping with somebody who has experience and can tell what's really safe and not safe.

And also don't fool your self. Alway's remember if it can be jumped , it Probably has. YOu wont' be "opening" it up at this point believe me. The day it went up some guy you don't even know jumped it!

The 007 BASE heads are smart and don't brag about being first. 1.because they've got nothing to prove 2. if they brag then other's will come. others they don't know or like will come.

goodday greenmachine and find a local mentor. I don't want to see your green typed out thread in the incidents section or worst in ABBIE'S death list.

Re: [ChickenBASE] So Much To Learn...
I was under the impression that "Chicken BASE" was acheived by walking off all four objects under perfect conditions...hence the term "chicken".

Walking down due to wind is good judgement.

Re: [1108] So Much To Learn...
My personal rule is that you have to be geared up and at the exit point, then decide to walk off. If you walk off due to wind after gearing up and getting to the exit, I'd count it. If you call it off for wind while you're still in the parking lot, I wouldn't.

Not that anyone cares about the technicalities and nit-picking... But lets do it anyway...

Say an earth object. You climb 1.5 hours. You get to the exit. You take the gear out of the stash bag, throw some paper, wait 30 minutes, then put the gear in the stash bag and downclimb for another 1.5 hours. Does that count, even though the gear was never on, but you invested half a day on tthe trip.

How about a building - you put on your gear, you get past the locked gates, you are on your way to the exit, but the winds change and you abandon ship before getting to the exit, having to get out without being caught.

How about an antenna. You get to 250 feet (planning on jumping at 400) and climb down after throwing paper....

Not that it is a big deal - but how close to the exit do you have to be, and does the gear have to be all the way on ready to jump?

I walk away fro object when the condition was almost perfect, other times I should have walked away but did not, it don't matter how many time's you walk down the object long as you try, if you give up than you become pussy
