Would you follow somebody who just started his BASE career last year?

JUST got some information and i'm wondering how true it is.

Can somebody explain or clarify this?

I would follow someone who didn't jump AT ALL if they had a good enough plan and good enough backing. The success of this will most likely boil down to the legal acumen of the protest group, the safe conduct of the protesters, and their success in cajoling the media into casting them in a positive light. The BASE experience of one of the leaders is not the most important thing, by a long shot.
Your comment barely deserves to be its own thread, and this should be moved into one of the other 9 on this topic.

YES i would. what the hell difference does it make when he started jumping! if anything i more impressed that a relative new comer is taking such an initiative to further our jumping sites.
what are you doing to help us gain access to this object?

spotlighting his time in the sport as a bad thing could start the kind of inner squabling bullshit that could make this effort and us look like we dont have our shit together to deserve access.

I think that's exaclty what those that are against it want to do. Whether or not you are for or against UHUCK, what you say could be very true.

First of all not all deserve to jump certain sites.

and second of all we obviously dont have our "shit" togethter.

I do find it funny is a guy goes toEurope comes back and thinks we should have this here . Charge! hes not the first with this idea.

He needs to slow down a put some more time in the sport and see things and obsorb all that is around him.

Maybe go to the park often and the come up with a plan. and so on and so forth.

The base jumping belongs to the new generation! We can only advise them, and hope they find the right path! Young jumpers full of energy and new ideas! When we started we only wanted to jump, and keep a low key, now it is to many jumpers around that you can just dream about keeping a low key on jumping! So more legal acces the better, and new way of aproaches the better.

I do admire his vigor. i dont admire his quickness and all the mistakes and shortsideness his made so far.

I think he needs to make a long term plan.

Hey at least he got us talking. But i dont believe hes built up enough of a resume and reputation to be followed and has many mistakes to make in the future to learn from to then walk back and say now i know.

Yes he need advices, and it seems he at least listening! Thats a good start! If I could I would like to have all the acces the every cliff in Norway for myself, but i could just dream on! For a long time I was very disturbed about how people raped the Troll Wall, but as I said the new generation do need their time to learn as well, and then we have a new coming as well, with new ideas!

Regardless of what mistakes you think that Uhuck has made, at least they are on the right track at getting the base community, as a whole, to take action.

I admit, I never sent in a single letter or a request for a permit until the Uhuck site was up and running.

Jumping in the National Parks has always been talked about and some have made improvements on the legalization, but I feel that Uhuck has made the most improvements by getting peoples emotions involved and resurrecting a very important issue.

Lets work together instead of fighting each other; write to your congressman, write to your senators, write to the national park people listed on Uhucks website http://www.uhuck.com/action.html, and apply for permits.

But above all do not do just sit idly by and complain.

Are you speaking of me? If you are, then you have been given false information. You have already responded to my experience in another post. I took my FJC in June of 2005, however, started actively jumping in Late July 2005. It is now December 2007.

From my perspective, it takes more to lead than jump numbers. As well, a person with 500 BASE Jumps can be far less qualified for jumping than a person with 100 Jumps.

Why are you so combative? When poised to be in a position to give constructive advice and turn this the way that you think it needs to be handled for the legalization of BASE in Yosemite, why would you consistently try to be subversive to those putting an active effort? Instead, why not put the effort in yourself in a positive way?

I think Forrest thinks he is jumping the cliff the "right way," but he is being selfish in some regards. Sure he is getting to jump and "Uhuck" is encroaching on the Cliffs jumpability in the aspect that more heat is on it now. He may be afraid that he can't jump "the right way" anymore.

Just Imagine if everyone actually starts talking in a constructive manner and a plan (that may already be created) is solidified and this actually works?

a friend and i death camped Uhuck's john garrett in may of 2005, a nice little hand helder off the top rail of my bridge in idaho as i recall... he has been jumping ever since.

I'll follow anyone with a bad ass tattoo, or at least anyone that will drink with me

i agree. i dont hink uhuck has a complete plan so far. however its a start and he does seem open to advice. ill buy my t shirt and dvds, but before i jump and risk loosing my gear i need to know theres a solid plan for positive attention to our plight. i think lots of jumpers feel this way.

the way i see it, the ball is already in motion. so id rather help guide it down the right path than try to de rail it.

well said. with the date 7 months away a lot of things can happen, a lot of time for people with ideas and energy and passion about to meet, discuss and plan for an eventual goal. remember we are all pretty much on the SAME side of the issue. Just varying in a path. is it a bad idea to spread out and flank the NPS with 3+ reasonable and professional solutions to the problem? if we can show that they have been entirely unreasonable to the issue, wouldn't that gain any traction from outside the specific parks into the relm of the dept. of interior?

As far as jump numbers and leadership are conserned, i also think just more time in the sport is nesessary. but whatever.

If asking questions of you is combative well i'm sorry. Asking questions of somebody who wants to do this , espeacially when you originally started off more combative yourself with your video with the corny background song "fuck authority, silent majority" etc, and the quote were not dumb assess were badassess", and the video with ton's of less than legal jumps which were to buy to support legalization of the park, and on , and on.

OK LOOK, i want legal access and you want it. I Just think you started off a little unprepared. IF you want support from people like me things like the trash pick up thing or the donation to the park for some animal etc is the right way. We will end up looking like the outdoormens that we are, just like hikers, climbers etc. and not the "yahoo" fuck it all types that most people picture us as.


HEY as someone else said something like now that the balls rolling i'm not going to stop. Fine im not going to bitch (TOO MUCH) if it's done the "right way", which probably means you'll have to drop 80 percent of your original ideas and form a new "populist" plan morphed from fellow BASEhead's , which i see your doing.

So what day is going to be on now, now that the day Frank (Rest in PEACE) IS out of line?

I do agree with most of what you are writing! I think 7 months is to short time for his action, and it should have been 19 months!

Anyway good luck to all of you, either way! New generation is on their way, and some get burned out quick, and some continue in higher speed than the generation before!

i agree with you. 7 months is going to pass by in a nano second! hopefully the organizers will see that to really work the bugs out and get the ammount of support needed as well as a solid plan for peace they will need more time.
theres no fire, lets take the time needed and do this right.
