Health Insurance
Hey everybody

I'm just looking to get a new health insurance here in the US (michigan) and since I consider starting to BASE jump I wanted to know if I have to be carefull about certain things.
I will need an international policy anyways so that shouldn't make a difference, but are there policies that exclude BASE and skydiving?

Anybody has a tip what company and plan I should go with or what to avoid? Money isn't really an issue since the us health insurance will be way cheaper than my Swiss one no matter what so I'll save money anyways.

Btw: I'm 19, non smoker and healthy

I jump with an insurance agent.

DO NOT tell them you BASE at all. The last BASE jumper he tried to get a policy for they wouldn't insure him.

That person was Jimmy Hall.

If your up front from what he told me....no one will insure you.

But then again, I don't sell insurance, I don't even pay for insurance.

just make sure that the company does not consider a BASE jump an attempted suicide.

Re: [Hausse] Health Insurance
When I started my job I called my insurance company, Priority Health HMO, and they said they would cover injuries from a parachuting accident even if I was breaking the law when it happenned.

I also have a thing with Combined Insurance that pays me cash for injuries. $20K if I lose a limb, $40K if I lose more than 1 limb or die. They give you $105/day if you end up in the hospital or $1050/day for each day in intensive care. They even gave me $65 once for a chiropractor after a hard opening. The good part is, it pays the cash directly to me. Not enough to pay the medical bills, but it will help cover the rest of my bills for a while if I end up hurt. It seems like a pretty good deal for $20/month. PM me if you want the agent's phone number.

By the way, where in Michigan?

The free policy I once had while working at
one job had an exclusion clause that said:

You are immediately not covered if you
voluntarily eject yourself from a moving
plane, train, automobile, or boat.

Of course for minor injuries there is
always the old, I fell of my bike Wink

Hey thanks for your info. So not telling might be smart but if something happens are they in turn gonna not pay me?

Just remember that you tell all your friends that if you ever have to go to the hospital and use your Health insurance policy, YOU WERE HIKING.

Okey I know that it is possible to trick insurances but that's not really what I wanna do. I want an insurance (which is still payable) that covers me when I need it and I don't wanna have to get my rig and jumpsuit off and pretend I fell off the roof. I wanna call the chopper, they pick me up and fix me and then the insurance should cover that without trouble.

Is it possible to find something like that without paying gazillions?

I used to have the same accident policy from Combined, it's a good deal. In fact, I plan on getting another accident policy from AFLAC as soon as I go back to work. Accident policies usually cover almost all activities that an accident can happen unlike medical policies.
