Travelling to Lysebotn from UK
Hi Guys

I am planning on making my first trip to Norway in July 2008. I have read alot of the threads regarding staying in Lysebotn and have been struck by the huge costs of staying there. Food and accomodation are all extortionate.

Please can someone advise me on what would be the cheapest/hassel free option.

Option 1. Take ferry from Newcastle to Stavanger with car, all food and beer for the trip. Then take smaller ferry down to Lysebotn. Camp with tent not the extortionate hostel or huts.

Option 2. Fly to Stavanger, buy a limited amount of food (deteremined by how much I can physically carry) and camp or stay in hostel but live mostly off the pub food and suffer the infamous Najette which I have read so much about.

I sense that even though the ferry from the UK with car would set me back about £800 it might save me in the long run because I won't have to buy any food or alcohol in Norway.

Many thanks in advance for your advice.

Aparently Najette is the woman who runs the campsite.

Not been there myself (yet) but from what Ive been told by people who have .... option 1 might be your best bet...

I think you will defo save money doing it that way even though the ferry is quite pricey when you factor in the cost of staying in the area.....

I have taken the ferry the last two years, cost me about £250/300. It's the way to go.
When you arrive you can camp anywhere!! Think the Law states that you have to be 50m away from nearest building. No need to give your hard earned cash away. Just take a little cooker with you. Showering is done at night using the campsite(you have to pay for the shower 10Kr). You can use the bar for food and drink if you want???
Be careful about the amount of beer you take over, check the limits. I also make a point of taking a new petrol can full of Vodka(always goes down well at the party's).Wink
I'm not going to comment on Najette, let you make your own mind upCrazy

Hey board360s

Thanks for the info..

£250 to £300 sounds much better than I've been quoted. From what I can work out the ferry booking site makes it compulsory to take an expensive room.

Did you take a car and not a room for that price. If so, can you remember what company you used? Did you go from Newcastle?

if your taking the car take the ferry to eigersund (hovland) there should be ferry going there I think, from there you can drive to Lysebotn (I don't know the price difference so you can you need to check) you can camp at the top too there is bathroom and shower, restaurant, ether way the food is expansive, take camping food and stove is little cheaper, you can drive from stavanger to lyseboth there is a toll charge, you need to find out where you can pay going to lysebotn because there is no both to pay for it

Dude check out this web site

The room is must, can't stay in your car for the crossing.

Hope it helpsSmile

Comon people, could everyone stop that shitty talking about the campsite? Kjerag is a beautifull place to jump, the weather in Norway in this time of the year is always shit, cause its Norway....sometimes it is perfect, sometimes not....like everywhere in the world!
The campsite is not cheap, but nothing in Norway is cheap.
Lyse is not a DZ only in cause of a good organization. Everyone who jumps there is happy about this well supportet way to basejump....

I think there will be no reason to piss against the organizers. If you don´t like this place, it is your choice to go somewhere else and hike your ass of...

no fucking way, if you lucky you could bump in to some cliff with 2-3 sec delay..you need to hike for 2-3 days to get access to this cliffs, but if you go further south to Denmark, you could find some huge bigwalls. Good luck!!
