Thumb in belt loop
Has anyone ever experienced a problem where they slip there thumb in a belt loop at pull time? I was doing a practice pull and noticed that this scenario could happen relatively easy, so i cut that loop off my pants i jump in.

Re: [travisjones] Thumb in belt loop
A lesson already learned in that other sport. When cheap DZOs used Sear's and Roebuck overalls as student jumpsuits they quickly learned to slice off the hammer loop . . .

Another thing I've noticed as we went back to pin rigs is a lot of jumpers launch with a long pull cord tied to a belt loop. That's going to bite someone in the ass someday . . .

I had a friend mention this problem after a jump one night and then noticed the same for myself on some practice pulls. Now I have cut the right side belt loops off of the pants that I regularly jump in.

A know of a tandem master who did not
properly secure the excess webbing from
the laterals, at pull time he was pulling
on those instead of the drogue release,
and ended dumping his reserve into the
drogue.

Wonder how many new active jumpers are actually aware of this potentially deadly situation? I have never been told by anyone i jump with. Do any of the FJC's teach you to cut these loops?

Not only did I notice that the loops were a potential death trap but my pants have pockets with fold over flaps and buttons that I had to sew down.

yeah I'm glad somebody brought this up. My pants have zippers and when I found out what an issue it was I changed over to buttons. I also thought the cargo pockets would be a snag point so I only jump in a speed-o

I lean to the right. Could this be a problem at pull time?

I've sewn down the seat pockets on my BDU's as well.

The newer BDU's have thigh cargo pockets with buttons that would be virtually impossible for a line to snag on.

I dress to the left. Could this be the cause of my off-heading openings?
