BASE Project
I know this is probably a tough question but I am doing a project in college on BASE and i was wondering if anyone knew how much money Twin Falls Idaho makes off of BASE jumpers each year?

The simplest way to find this out, would be to get the number for the TF chamber of commerce. Then call and ask them.

Re: [stitch] BASE Project
I'm sure "they" don’t know as I doubt anyone there has broken it down. The sure answer is more than they made before there was BASE jumping.

If you need any "background" BASE help PM me . . .

Re: [NickDG] BASE Project
Thanks guys... Would you at least say it is a Multi Million $ a year industry for TF?

Also I could use some stuff on the NPS... How many jumpers have died running from them and also any horror stories about the NPS?

All this is def. forming my paper thanks alot!

Oh my - wrong angle - Brother . . .

How about the thousands of jumpers who never ran, or don’t need too.

BASE jumping is simply about the first human beings who can fly!

If you help us, we'll help you.

Leave your preconceived notions behind or else we won't be able to do business along those lines . . .

I'd say it's not even close to that.

Honestly, the total financial impact we make here is quite small. Our most noticeable impact is uniqueness. People here like the fact that Twin Falls is a BASE mecca. It makes us feel special about our little town which, otherwise, is quite honestly just about like every other little town in the middle of America.

Re: [AuburnBase] BASE Project
As Tom A. and the others have
pointed out it would be very, very
difficult to accurately measure the
economic impact of BASE in TF.

However, there are ways to estimate
this, you could create some polls and
questionaires, then use the data from
the sample to calculate the expected
values for the population.

The purchases you would most likely
see are for hotel rooms, gas, meals,
alcohol, tobacco, and medical servicesWink

You could also make a few calls to the
hotels there and ask about them about
their rates of occupancy levels during
Memorial Weekend versus their usual.

Re: [AuburnBase] BASE Project
I'm quite sure nothing in Twin Falls is a Multi Million $ a year industry. I wonder if anything is even getting close to a Million? (Maybe the hospital, but that's not completely local anymore.)

I know the jumping brings in people that are traveling through the area. They stop for a few hours or a day and they hit up the local places. I think that's the biggest money brought in: the business people are doing in Twin Falls because of jumping. That would be impossible to track as of right now.

While base has been in Twin for a while, it's just the last three years that businesses have really embraced it, especially in advertising. The good thing about that is if base were to become illegal in Twin a ton of business would suffer just from having to change their advertising. I really think we're building a good base of people that will fight for us.

Anyway, the horror stories don't do us any good. It just makes base jumping seem even more criminal and dangerously stupid (not that base isn't dangerous).

Re: [hollyhjb] BASE Project
it's not just the base jumper, there is all the tourist that come just to see the jumpers (to see carnage and death), the espn and other tv contribute to more and more each year of increase in tourist.
