Trip to Switzerland
What's up ya'll. I've been interested in BASE for a long time. I only have 55 jumps as a skydiver, but I am taking a trip to europe this summer. My bro just move to Geneva and I'm going to be over there for a month. July 7- Aug 8. Going to as many places as I can. France, Spain, Italy. I would love to BASE when I'm out there. So if anybody in the area would be willing to help a brother out let me know. I'm going to try and get a bunch more jumps in just to help my canopy control and exits until then. Thanks

Hopeful BASE jumper

You've obviously been doing your research. It's nice to see such a heads up attitude.

If you can get in touch with some of the Geneva crew, they may be able to help you out. Hopefully one or two of them have contacted you by now.

Unfortunately, the buildings in Geneva are kind of low - you won't get much canopy time off of them, and they're really not suitable for a beginner. The only thing I can think of that they might be willing to let you jump is the fountain.

However, it's a very technical jump - you need to time your deployment just right. Deploy too early (i.e., while still ascending), and you can actually end up above your canopy, which can lead to all sorts of problems.

It's a very wet jump, and very rough on BASE gear, but if you hit the middle of the fountain you can easily get to 80-90 meters. Plus, you get a nice, soft water landing following the jump (I don't know of anybody who has landed on the walkway that leads out to the fountain. You'd have to be suicidal to try that).

Anyway, good luck. Don't die.

Re: [jumpnjivin] Trip to Switzerland
If you want to base jump you need to first realize the potential danger, it is NOT skydiving.
Things happen a lot faster and there are a lot more factors. 55 skydives in 3 years? You need at least 200 quality jumps and by that I mean you should spend the next 150 jumps using a 7cell canopy working on heading control and accuracy, also work on your tracking. And no one who has any sense is going to put you off any thing but a bridge for you first jumps. You need to take a first jump course, and start in Idaho at the perrine bridge.
Contact Tom Aiello he gives two free fjcs a year.
and dont count on jumping in eroupe.
I know I sound like a dick but Base is not skydiving
it can chew you up and spit you out.

Be safe Have fun.....

Re: [jumpnjivin] Trip to Switzerland
Hello jumpnjivin,

Please do not waste any more jumps with normal Skydives. As we have many cliffs in Switzerland it would be good for you to do your first BASE jump here with a Wingsuit. And to do a Wingsuit BASE jump you need at least 3 to 8 Wingsuit jumps out of an Airplane.

Regards,
Michi, Switzerland

Thanks to everyone that's givin helpful advice. I've heard different opinions on how many jump you should have before attempting base but 200 seems about average. Well I got eight months to try and make it happen. take a first jump course and make a few bridge jumps. Here's to hopin. Well if not this year maybe next. and sounding like a dick or not I appreciate the upfront attitude. Base is something I want to get into and stay into for a long time. not just a jump or two Wink
