Ive just decided to get into base jumping, after a few years of contemplation i have finally decided to go for it, so where do i start. What do i need, where do i go, who do it talk to.
Definitely do some skydiving and sort out your canopy skills, and decide if that's going to do it for you, or if you still want to BASE jump.
If you want some specific recommendations on training progression through your skydives, to best prepare for BASE, drop me a PM, and I'll talk at you for a bit.
A lot of people start asking way too soon about buying a rig. This should be the last question you ask--after you've developed canopy skills and rigging skills; after you've asked all kinds of questions about the gear, about weather, about object assessment. These are questions that will save your life. "Where can you get a rig?" is just a purchase decision.
I would try bouncing off a trampoline and doing belly flops into a sand pit to get your exits right. Some fairy dust might help. But thats only if you start bleeding. Then when your ready get a big trash bag and jump off the tallest point on a park play set when alot of people are around. The peas help the fall, but you still have to plf. Tada you base jumped!
How many is the normal amount before any of you started base jumping, cause i have done four tandem jumps, but i dont think that qualifies
More is better. Most people will recommend a minimum between 100 and 200 skydives, but in general most of the experienced BASE jumpers I know would feel more comfortable with BASE students at 500 or 1000 skydives.
