Unpacked jumps....
I have heard of different types of unpacked jumps..like "game over, reverse roll-over, sushi roll-over"...and the list goes on hahaSly
I have only done a couple of "traditional" forward Roll-over, but i like to try some new version of it..
So come on your lazy unpacked-jumps enthusiasts and post some of your version and explain the technique behind it...PS: pictures tell more than thousand wordsSmile

Re: [johan420] Unpacked jumps....
huh. well, i would not call ANY of my, or my crews unpacked jumps 'lazy'. but i can see that a lot of people do them.

I am the person to do the first few 'sushi-roll-overs' (i think, I at least thought of it on my own in early 2005)

basically its an intenional 360 degree line twist, jumper facing the exit point, and then doing a front flip/360 'misty' (in the correct direction) over the canopy. this takes commitment to the plan, because you need to figure out HOW your going to initiate the rotation. not for the faint of heart.

Im sure its been done before, but there is the step-through-over. can be done in either direction. intentionally put a single, double, or triple step through into your canopy. now hold the risers and lines apart as far as arms can reach, then do the appropriate number a flips to correct the step through(s). a plank helps a lot for that one.

Re: [Calvin19] Unpacked jumps....
thanks, i love that "step through over"...i guess it will helps a lot to remove the slider for a low jump for this version...
Shortcut
Re: [johan420] Unpacked jumps....
that was one of the first ones. slider should be removed, slider unpacked jumps are kinda cheating.

and i would not recomend the sushirollover for anything. not even the perrine. off headings and line twist are the norm.

oh yeah...i will put the sushi on the side for a while, looks too tricky for me...twisting myself into a 720Pirateoops, wrong way!!Laugh

Re: [johan420] Unpacked jumps....
i had to make a model out of packing ribon and clamps, to figure out what way i need to rotate. its a mindfuck.

The original name for this is the "McJJ" since the first one was done by JJ (the BR/Norway/California one, not the Kansas City one) at the first Go Fast Games.

I saw that one. being that it may have been un-intentional, and that is just as cool as doing it for the first time, i guess its called the McJJ.

I like to hear more about some TARD methods...i suppose it`s smart to use a tailgate on this type of jumps!? and what about the lines...holding it in your hands, stowed in the tailpocket?
Shortcut
Re: [johan420] Unpacked jumps....
If you stow in a tailpocket, you might as well pack the damn thing.

Some do tailgates, some do not. One of the most famous unpacked jumpers around - probably THE most - doesn't tailgate.

I tailgate. 3 huge s-folds into my right hand, one over the last...grab the handle (primary stow)...lift as you jump...hold on and enjoy the ride until you feel you need a canopy...then let go. It wants to open.

If you're like Gay Nick, it's best to go ahead and rotate the canopy 4 times at the beginning. Get the line twists over with from the start.

Don't pay much attention to me though, I operate primarily on luck and tequila.

giggety giggety.

Re: [Para_Frog] Unpacked jumps....
ok...and this will normally open faster(higher) than a PCA jump right?
Shortcut
Re: [johan420] Unpacked jumps....
If you chucked it up and let go as you step off...yes, but the heading consistency is very unpredictable on a tard in contrast to a PCA that was packed well.

I've had good luck in that regard, but I've seen some ugly ones. I wouldn't personally tard anything other than a span, but that's just me.

McConkey's, on the other hand, when executed aggressively (line tension throughout), have great heading characteristics. At least they have for me.

Just my $.02. I'm not an authority, nor do I play one on TV.

There are probably folks on here who differ and will chime in accordingly.

Re: [Para_Frog] Unpacked jumps....
I'm a big believer in using the tailgate, for the same reasons I believe in using the tailgate on packed jumps.

Heading rate on TARDs is very good, if you careful to set the nose _before_ you leave the object. You can pretty much evaluate the heading before stepping off, so you can stop and try again if the heading is bad. I've seen one experienced unpacked jumper who is pretty much able to score on headings every single time with TARDs, because he's not willing to commit to the exit if it's not going to be on heading.

I really like using the tail pocket as well. It greatly reduces the chance for a tension knot or other weird malfunction caused by that nasty mess of slack lines.

There are really two totally different ways to do most unpacked jumps--the careful, conservative way (for solid objects and many other sites) and the Perrine Bridge way, for just cranking out as many jumps with as little work as possible. Know which methodology is required for your jump, and conduct yourself accordingly.

totally agreed on all points.
