NPS Protest Jump 2007/2008?
Anyone/Everyone willing to risk it all for what could or could not happen?

I can't think of a single reason why we can't jump all of the beautiful objects in America's treasurelands, just as well as I encourage climbers to enjoy them in their own ways...

Who is willing, able, and ready to commit to some real changes getting made?

Since there is another thread going about NOT jumping a bridge in 2008 as a protest - to make sure we are on the same page - you are asking about JUMPING a NPS object as a large group in protest, right?

Repost from other thread...

...about boycotting bridge Day 08, though I understand the principal (as the Bridge Day 06 – no NPS banner guy) I think we need to separate the two as they are not really related in the big picture. I am all for protests against the NPS and their unethical and in my opinion unlawful treatment of BASE jumpers in National Parks but Bridge Day is the most visible, longest standing, and the most positive promotion we have in the sport. A boycott would only hurt us. (I see some like thoughts here now)

If you want to really protest something then lets show up in mass at a place we all want to see opened… always lots of talk each year but it will take some sacrifice to make this happen.

There have been some great posts in the past about passive (packing in the field - no jumps) and more aggressive protests. If this is really something people are ready to commit to (being arrested, paying significant $$$, courts dates, etc) then lets quit the "chat" and sack up!

Earth Day 2008 Anyone?

everyone would get arrested for conspiracy. I'm a pilot, I cant have a federal offense on my record.

If I was charged by the Federal Government for "Conspiracy to Commit Aerial Delivery", I would pay my fine and move out of this country immediately.

I am willing to sack up and ready to accept the "consequences" for my actions. Done talking, done waiting for change, done staring at pictures of incredibly beautiful BASE cliffs in my own country.

This ridiculousness has got to end, one way or another...

just organize a parachute packing ceremony in the meadow. imagine the scene when someone jumps "the big cliff" in California and there are 50 jumpers in the landing area packing their rigs. Who dunnit? Are they going to illegally arrest everyone?

I´d volunteer for one of the packing dudes! I´m a german student in fresno, and I would like to start BASE next year after a few more skydives. So packing my skydive rig there would be cool! It´s a shame that you can´t jump legal from this site.

That is an awesome idea.

Dude, don't just accept a bogus charge and pay the fine, fight the charges and set a precedent.

That takes time and money to do.

The way I see it most people would rather just pay their fine and get on with it. IF someone was willing to dedicate the time and get a lawyer pay out all the legal fee's and challenge a stupid law made for resupplying hunters then you might just get somewhere.

But who's gonna go make the jump? Then cough up all the legal expense just to see if they can win.

Re: [punkd] conspiracy charge
it's called civil disobedience and the ACLU can help with the legal fight. invoke a constitutional right in an organized legal protest of parachute packing and a precedent will be set upon winning the legal battle. however, the sneaky bastards tend to change the laws so the only way to really win is to do it on a national congressional level.

I said this a while ago...

NPS falls under the Department of the Interior. The current Interior Secretary is Dirk Kempthorne - former Governor of Idaho.

With a certain outgoing pole-smoking U.S. Senator, there are rumblings that Kempthorne will return to Idaho politics.

Twin Falls is a significant constituency in Idaho. Twin Falls supports BASE jumping - and makes an amount of revenue from us that cannot be ignored.

Between the permanent types, and the temporary types who jump the potato - someone in local government whom we could possibly get on board to attest to the benefits of our existence, and some numbers from the Norwegians - the very least we can do (someone experienced in the issue, very eloquent, and versed in politicobullshitese - I nominate Nick and Avery) - is send the Dirkster a letter with a few hundred signatures asking him to revisit the issue.

Worst he can do is ignore, but there are at least the slightest of politically motivated underpinnings there to make him take pause.

It would again be on record with supporting documentation - and with some press leakage - it would make some noise.

Collaborative action bitches - in the language of politic$.
