terminal A
Hey guys...

Going to a 2000 foot A next week, exit at 1900 feet. When doing an A that high, do you treat the wind the same way as on a smaller, for example 500 foot A ( tail wind, between the wires..blah blah blah). B/c of the available altitude, do you find that you are more relaxed about the wind?

Re: [traker] terminal A
Not the most experienced answer, but as long as you plan on taking a decent delay and know how to track, it shouldnt be a problem. If the winds are like 40 mph up top, well that makes a difference, but in my 15 big A jumps, I just make sure to pay attention to conditions at my opening altitude and below. From 2000 feet I would think you can get some pretty good tracking in and open where the wires are pretty widely spaced, regardless of a crosswind down a wire.

Re: [hjumper33] terminal A
it's easy to go headlow from that altitude since the horizon is considerably lower than from, say, 500 feet (cueing on the horizon for launch). secondly, the winds can often be very strong. i've jumped in 50 mph winds and the winds pitched me head down since it was equivalent to a rear exit from a plane with prop blast trying to pitch me headdown. the winds sometimes will be down the wire and it will pitch your heading to be either down the wire or 90 degrees off the wire. be prepared to provide turn corrections while in freefall. in reality though, terminal A jumps are some of the safest of all BASE jumps in my opinion.

Re: [traker] terminal A
you can always check the wind before you go. (its not super accurate for direction, but speed its usualy spot on)

enter your ground, opening, and exit altitudes (MSL of course, stupid skydivers)

the stronger the wind, the more reliable the direction is. and remember the little flag poles point to where the wind is coming FROM.

Re: [Calvin19] terminal A
Thanks for the replies guys!

I have a fair bit of experience off of freestanders and have jumped from a 480 foot platform from my local A for some time now.

460: Thats some good advice you got going there. Thanks! I have never done a terminal base jump before. It seems as though a 2000 foot A is too good to be true. I just wanted to know if there was more to it then a stable exit and track. I figured even if I didn't get a good track, after 6-10 seconds I would have some considerable distance from the A.

Thanks for the site Calvin!

At least he has the balls to ask for some advise. I thought as a community we should try and keep everyone as safe as possible and with remarks like that some people might get discouraged to even ask for advise. Nice job!

I will say that I agree that you should be willing to take a healthy delay and keep an eye on the winds at your opening altitude.

Re: [460] terminal A
also be careful if the exit point and just below are shielded from the wind. I've got a bunch off an A where the wind doesn't hit you full force until around 15ft (1 second) below exit, I've been blown unstable by high winds more than once, but only when they've been in excess of 40-50mph.

You know that those two are each others regular jumping partners, right?

Re: [traker] terminal A
Not only he is my jumping partner but my boyfriend as well. We are in a fight right now so there is a bit of anger. But if we both get some balls and ask for some advice, I am sure the community will be able to help us work it out.
