loran c tower
I'm looking for info on one of these babies. Will I get shocked and loose my big hard on. Do the radiation levels exceed FM a's? Thanks

is it still active? from my understanding loran in no longer in use, at least not in aviation.

The U.S. Navy's "older" ships still do.

Re: [gauleyguide] loran c tower
I am in the coast guard and we are the agency primarily in charge of loran towers. As far as I know they still keep them active as like a back up for GPS. Im not sure about the radiation or electricity effects.

Re: [DAVE858] loran c tower
Check section II of this manual. It's the Coast Guard Loran tower maintenance manual:

http://72.14.253.104/...k&cd=4&gl=us

Basically it says Loran-C towers can be climbed while energized. But there are other types of Loran towers that can't, or at least, shouldn't be. It appears the whole tower is not hot, but an omnidirectional radiator is attached near the top and should be avoided.

However, be very careful. And I have no personal experience with these types of towers.

Hope the above helps.
