Off heading with line twist Poll
I'm wondering how many people think it's necessary to climb above the line twist to steer your canopy or will the brakes work with line twist.

Re: [Gaper] Off heading with line twist Poll
I voted for 1 and 2, because I think it depends on several factors. If I am close to, and flying at an object then I would climb above the twists and turn the canopy with a steering line (ideally). If I am not close to impact, then I would kick out first; especially if the line twists are relatively minor.

In reply to:
will the brakes work with line twist.

If you try to release your brakes and/or attempt to use them, don't you run the risk of getting your brake line "stuck" in the twist in an unpredictable manner?

Re: [78RATS] Off heading with line twist Poll
So today I packed myself intentional 180s on three jumps. Two opened with perfect 180s with half a line twist, and one opened a little off (go figure). Anyway, I realized that with only half a line twist I was able to get out of the twist at the same time that I was grabbing my toggles (I prefer toggles over risers.) My head was held down slightly by the twist on the first jump. I imagine that with multiple line twists it would be extremely difficult to climb up my lines if my head was pinned down, or see what line I would be pulling on.

I've done exactly that before; didn't really think about it but kind of crossed my arms and grabbed the appropriate toggles.

It your line twists are much higher (think about a slider up jump with the slider either in or above the twists) then you have more of a problem. I've heard in that case of someone pushing the risers together to bring the twists down then pulling lines above the twists...

Funny Gaper you ask this at this point in time Wink I thinkk it totally depends on the interaction between how many twists, if they are high and loose or low and tight and nearness to object strike. Often you can steer right through them, if its <2 and the canopy is flying well and symetrical, in my very limited experience this is typically when they are high up (very soon after settleing into the saddle) and its often difficult to climb above them then.

From two very real experience, I can tell you that pulling down the right toggle through the twist works!
You can even steer the canopy in that manner for a while after getting it turned around. Both time the break lines worked just fine and did not "lock" after I pulled them down through the twists.
I used that technique twice when cliff strike was imminent (LB the Nose) and an underhung cliff in Morroco. In an emergency situation i much rather take the chance to hook myself in due to a stuck breakline than having a cliff stike 150 m up the wall face cause i was not able to get the canopy turned around!Pirate

Which was the case whenn i used this technique. I only had 2 twists...Pirate

My point is you can steer with your risers and brake lines. I have had as much as 3 twists and had no problem with the lines hanging up. I think this is an important issue for everyone. I've seen to many of my friends fly into the cliff or building worrying about there line twist and not flying there canopy.
