Another Reporter Wants to Grill You About Our Crazy Sport...
I would very much appreciate if you could put me in contact with some base jumpers from the NYC/NJ area. I am working on a piece about thrill sports that would run in our 5 pm newscast. I am interested in people that have done some fun jumps and may have video of those jumps; I would also interview them about the experience and why they do what they do. The piece will also touch on research that shows some people who do thrill seeking sports may have a genetic disposition toward such activities.

Thank you in advance for any assistance. Please feel free to give both my e-mail and phone number, 212 975-7953, to anyone.

they made an interview of one of our base jumper here in montreal at the national news station and then he made a jump from the news's building in live. (300ft)

Probably CBS has also a big building you could make play with Smile. But don't screw up, that's the downside, it's live.

It's a link to that interview and jump, but nobody will understand, or not a lot since it's in french.

Regarding Bridge Day - Here's a curious thing that happened about a month back.

A good friend of mine, and a very experienced skydiver, was considering attending Bridge Day '07. But his wife, also a skydiver, wasn't going for the idea, so he asked me to stop by and grease the rails for him.

I honestly explained BASE jumping to her, specifically the history of Bridge Day, and how I thought her husband, after doing the Bridge Day jump course and using the correct gear would do just fine.

She then asked about BASE fatalities and I went through the three that occurred there and explained how and why they happened. And I should have quit right there. Instead I threw in, "But, prior to that it's been nineteen years without a fatality at the New River Bridge!"

She thought about that for a moment as I sat back smiling at my friend and thinking I'd done a pretty good job. That's when she suddenly blurted out in my direction, "You idiot, it wasn't nineteen years. It was nineteen days!"

My friend isn't going to Bridge Day '07 . . .

Bridge Day only happens one day a year so 19 yrs is only 19 jumping days.
Actually it's only 18 days cause they cancelled it in 2001

Re: [Lonnie] Another Reporter Wants to Grill You About Our Crazy Sport...
actually,

19 days of jumpingwith only 6 total hours a day +/-
equals
114 hours / 24 hrs a day
equals

4.75 jumping days

Indeed, 3 deaths in 19 days... What's even more scary, those 3 jumped and ALL of them died! That's a 100% death rate, right there!

You guys all see the glass half empty...
If you break it down to fatalities in relation to jumps being done and first jumpers attended it does not look to bad in my opinion

agreed. few sites will see that many jumps in a YEAR, let alone the number of jumps by newbies.

You should just go PCA him off a free-stander...his wife doesn't need to be bothered by small details like BASE...
