Hey guys, ive not base jumped or anything, dont worry i dont plan on doing it anytime soon, maybe someday, but im just curious, when choosing an antenna what do you look for? And what do you consider the perfect antenna to be?

Really tall and really unguarded.

....and possibly a platform.

Psshh, who needs one of those :D

I have not hopped one yet*
but have scouted probably
a couple dozen.

The ones I liked had easy
access, good landing areas,
over 400 feet tall, and were
not AM.

Oh, also the location as in
its proximity to obstacles
like other antennas, etc.

At the moment I'm uncurrent
and did not think opening an
object, solo would be the best
choice to get re-current.

I prefer high-rise styles with elevators and valet parking.

i like asking around freinds and family to see if anyone owns a radio station, or just the tower itself.

I usually look for something with, like, a beer store, or maybe a bar at the bottom.... You know, like, climbing ladders is thirsty work!

It's also partly a safety issue, too. Alcohol is an antiseptic, after all. And if nothing else, at least you can be some entertainment on a Saturday night.

If I went back in time and ended up on that platform, I don't know if the hair, jumpsuits, or containers would scare me the most.

Hmmm. One rig has a blast handle.

The other looks like it has a plastic ripcord handle.

Funny guys, but it's not polite to call a guy "Vintage".

And at least we had reserve ripcords, even if they were non TSO.

Smitty (Phil S.) never had that much hair, even though it was quite long at times, it lacked body. He was, however, on site and did take that pic...

I knew that the Smitty I knew was more folically challenged than the picture, but the guy still seems damnably familiar.
