FLYBASE competition!
http://WWW.TRACKWING.COM (UNDER CONSTRUCTION) New videos, pictures, and information to come soon!

We are proud of invite the very best flying athletes, to join the Trackwing FLYBASE competition the week after ekstrem sport veko at Voss. Exact dates and more information will come later when the website is up running.

The location will be gridsetskolten in Romsdalen. It will be 32 athletes, 2 jumpers race a distance each round, and the first jumper who cross the finish line win. It is a open class so wingsuits, and flypants compete together. Flysuits have to be possible to buy from a official dealer, but modifications is allowed. This is not a final decision, but I want it to be so unrestricted as possible.

Each country have to make an organization, and pick their own athletes to participate in the competition. So far there will be only 2 from each nations, and the rest will be specially invited from Trackwing. This number can increase if we se there is necessary!

1. price 2000 euro
2. price 1000 euro
3. price 500 euro

This will be a tryout, and I hope this is a sport that will grow, and we can arrange a roundtrip!

To manage to outrack gridsetskolten safe to the finish line, it will be about the same as tracking to the landing area at Kjerag, or outrack a big famous wall in the states! I have no idea to compare with any other places in europe!

What kind of flysuit?
What kind of flysuit do you tink is fastest? I am not looking for any brand, but your personally opinion about what kind of design is the fastest!

Wingloading or not?

The hight of the cliff is about 860 m
first impact around 10 seconds
distance to finish line 700 m
distance to landing area about 750 m

This numbers can change, I will double check them with more accurate tools later!

Re: [Mikki_ZH] What kind of flysuit?
I believe there will be many surprises, and I am not sure what will be the best option. The ground rule is: The suit have to be possible to get from a producer, but personal modifications is allowed. Any modification that look dangerous, or prevent you from recover movement, will not be allowed. How we are going to detain that, I am not sure yet, but will discuss it with other jumpers, and producers! This forum is open for inputs!

Re: [434] What kind of flysuit?
ok...suggestion...

categorie #1 tracking gear without wings

categorie #2 Wingssiuts

maybe then it is more interesting for the competitors and the producers...you can compare the performance better...and i think there will be many surprises...

but, it only my opinion...Wink

Re: [elduderino] What kind of flysuit?
I want to keep it as simple and open as possible the first year, so we can learn, and see how we can do it different next year! I am not sure the big wings will win when it comes to a distance like this!? Maybe a hybrid have a good chance!?

Re: [434] What kind of flysuit?
your right,...
it hard to say whats the weapon of choice..

Re: [434] What kind of flysuit?
This sounds like the site known as "jt and Shane's cliff" formerly known as Griseskolten. is this correct?

oh yeah and don't you want more than one team of fat fucking americans to join the fun? this way those cocky assholes will get put in their place.
Shortcut
Re: [jtholmes] What kind of flysuit?
Red Bull have to pay 100 000 in start money to get their team in the competition! so we can raise the pot to 10 000 euro for 1., 5000 euro, for 2. and 2500 euro for 3.! Free accommodation, free food, and free party on the last saturday!

Fat jumpers will have advantage since they dont need to add weigth to get their wingloading needed for a fast flight!

Might be not so simple, since the fastest average horizontal speed wins in your competition. While fat adds sustained speed (proportionally to the square root of weight), it severely affects initial acceleration (inversely proportional to weight).

Same for different kinds of wingsuits and tracking gear: while some tracking suits have higher sustained horizontal speed than wingsuits (e.g. Prodigy pants alone beat any wingsuit), wingsuits start flying faster.

The overall result is unpredictable mix of skills, suit, weight, and fixed distance. Longer distance favors slick suit with intermediate L/D (1.4 is ideal for fastest speed) and larger weight, while shorter distance favors larger suits and smaller weight.

I'll try to calculate how much fat you need to win. Smile

Re: [yuri_base] What kind of flysuit?
Anyhow what we will think, there will be a competition with high speed, high nerves, and big surprises I hope!

I just hope there is enough interest for this event, and maybe there will be other jumpers coming to the area at the same time, and we can organize some show jumping for the spectators between the rounds!
Shortcut
Re: [434] FLYBASE competition!
Do we need a seperate female class?

How many girls is there out there who would be interested to compete?

In that case I would like it to be minimum 8 competers to make a seperate competition!

How many base nations is out there who have competent flyers to make a race like this safe! There will be a high profile on safety on this event! If you think there will be just to angle down and full trottle you are wrong. We will have a minimum safety hight for opening altitude!
Shortcut
Re: [434] FLYBASE competition!
i think think an extra female class is not necessary...
the girls that are capable to track like hell beat the most guys...Wink

Buddy, I´m shure there will be enough interests for this event! Maybe you need just invite more than 2 from one nation, if there are not enough nations....but for sure germany, swiss, france, italy, Sweden and the UK will have skilled flyers for your event.

Do you think that Juli is a good time for the event? In my opnion Juli will not be the best time....just think on unstable weather?!
Shortcut
Re: [muero] What kind of flysuit?
July is maybe not the best time for the event, but you never know actually! The reason for the dates is that the Heliboogie and extreme sport week is just finished, and it would be easy for those who have been at one or both places to hit up here! The numbers can change if there is enough interest from skilled jumpers! The fabric teams and for those who is sponsored will get their place to, but have to pay a entry fee!

Re: [muero] What kind of flysuit?
Hey hey hey , don't forget Mexico , while there are two active jumpers in my country and one Overseas (Michi) we can also track like madman, all we need is a can of beans the previous night... ha

That's because the girls are already used to flying with just (mostly) guys :P

Just wondering who else from Team America would like to be there to compete, and honestly thinks they could make it out there for the event??

Re: [JeNnEjEnN] FLYBASE competition!
Question in general.

Is the finish line in such a position that time is measured from exit to a position crossed in freefall, or is it somewhere else (landing zone?).
That could be interesting as well, because the it is not just about flying skills, but also canopy skills. Wink

Re: [Ronald] FLYBASE competition!
Hi Ronald!

It will be a speedrace jumper against jumper only, and the finish line would be visual for jumpers, judges and spectators so it is easy to measure! No timed freefalls except for the interest of how fast the distance is flyed for the specific round. If I understand you right, you want to fly to the landing area and pull low, land as fast as possible? Hm that would be a good one! Wondering how long we could arrange something like that?

Re: [434] What kind of flysuit?
What if some accident happens?
Shortcut
Re: [434] FLYBASE competition!
I am thinking of international staff to, and a jury! If someone feel the need to be voluntary staff let me know! I dont know what I can offer yet, but the first year will be alot of work and learning what we can do better next year, and hopefully show people what we can do, and possible have an arrangement that will survive financially.

Maybe some of you will adopt the concept and we have an world wide arrangement with a world cup in the end! Even a famous valley in the state could be interested in a arrangement like this in the future if we prove we can do safe and interesting for media and spectators!!

We will be prepered for accidents, and we do know it can happen during the event. Accidents will not happens because of the arrangement, but because of the action the jumper normaly do! Hope you understand english is not my first spoken language. So I hope you understand me right.

Re: [434] FLYBASE competition!
Hi 434,

My intention would be to get the fastest time from exit to landing. Pulling high or pulling low could lead to different result, pulling higher could even lead to a faster time (in some cases).
The big advantage of that would be the no-discussion on the timing. But with a team of judges there would be no discussion about crossing the line in freefall either. Wink

Thats one "g" in Doug boys. Yeah, i am by far the best wingsuit fjord swimmer that you ever met Wink Actually, we have terminal towers here in Texas, remember....everything is bigger here!
