The Journey or the Jump
Hard to say what I like more, but I think it might be the journey.

For me it is both.........sometimes the journey can be the best part of the whole process. The hike, the friends, the view or the grizzlies.
Sometimes it is alll about the jump!
Last spring I spent what seemed like an eternity tucked under a cliff band hiding after running away from security like a fat gazelle. After some time I could hear footsteps right above my head, going back and forth like they were looking for someone.
Then I hear my name whispered and I pop my head up just in time for my friend to knock a 5 pound rock loose aiming right at my melon. I dodge it, he feels bad and I laugh.
We got away and I didn't get to jump but I got all the adrenalin, excitement and a couple hours of hanging with two of my favourite people. Better than the jump I'd sayCool

ya, both.

BASE is not all about the jump, but it really is all the video.

BASE is something I do to go places that i never would have gone. i mean that in the air and on the object. the best moments of jumping in the city are the ones with the crew citting on top of the B, the wind is good but we are just sitting there, feet over the edge, looking out knowing that there is no one else out there who is seeing this. maybe even no one who ever will again.

or even better, hiking out in the park at 3 am, plans to jump a 2000' E at 5:30am, seeing beautiful lightning in the distance. then watching the storm over the massive rock valley. deciding not to jump at 5am, but sitting on the exit watching the storm go by until the sun is well risen behind it.

or jumping mill creek in moab, throwing the rig in the bag as fast as you can and running bust-ass speed down the trail to the big, cool swimming hole cause its 120 degrees outside.

or climbing to 1850' on a 2000' A. knowing that 1300'is plenty, but going all the way up just makes it that much more satisfying.

BASE is about the journey i guess.

Not for the jump, but for the places it takes you to, and brings you back from.

I liken a base jump to a fine meal -- the anticipation, the aroma, the fine company, the appetizers, the entree, and finally -- dessert! (and maybe running out without paying the bill?)
