Ever fuck up a jump?
I did tonight. I went really head down off 900ft. I have noticed this when going off big shit. I have no video and they are all in the dark so nobody can really see but I speculate I'm bringing my arms down to my sides to a tracking position and not really using them effectively. I'm not wearing any bulky/ windcatching pants and just a t shirt that says "Guns don't kill people, I do."

I've tried to raise my chin to grab a little air and correct, but it didnt work tonight. I'm having a beer and realizing how rusty I am.

Ok, I stopped laughing now. That's some funny shit right there....Laugh . Maybe open your mouth really wide also to catch more air ?

Everybody going to f-up an exit once in a while no matter how many jumps you got. Sounds like you got it most of the ay figured out anyway. some sleeve on a shirt and holding the arms out a second or two longer before sweeping them back will compensate. If you did not launch at he right angle and push-off.
If head down when time to pitch though. Usually all will workout if you just square-off shoulders to hips, then Pitch and keep it square and don't look up until bottom skin pops.

guessing on the details / sounds like you doing a standing launch, 4-5 second delay, slider-UP, 38" PC ?

Plenty!

For the head down thing i was advised in the event to use the skydiving dive exit. Dunno how effective it is in dead air but I have seen a good BASE jumper use it a few times on forward loops to prevent over-rotation... Arms way forward and legs tucked up..... 900' any way you can sacrifice a little altitude for stability....oooo i didn't just say that did i?

I also had to wait till my laughter subsided before I could type. If you only knew... One good thing about jumping solo, nobody sees your fuck ups. No one would even begin to beleave some of the stories. I remember one time on top of a very big cliff...

What size t-shirt do you wear. Just for you I'll print one long sleave.

Ray, do you have said shirt yet? Checked our web site lately?

Lee,

The video of you falling down at the exit point was priceless!

Are Elephants pink??

I suspect you're arching hard while tracking. If you drop your hips a little and relax pelvis, you'll get a flatter track.

but, first and foremost, be very sure to tilt your head back and let your chin catch as much air as possible.. those with a double- or butt-chin will gain the most advantage from this, though anyone can maximize its effectiveness by opening their mouth to grab more air.

And if you want to go that extra mile, try using some wood glue to gel your hair up into a pointy mohawk, as this will help your head cut through the air more efficiently (sorry twoply, this one might not work in your case Tongue)

I just did the same thing last night. pretty close to your same exit elevation/slider-up. Launched off with a hard squat-thrust, throwing arms out ahead of me. Ended up smoking it head down. ...Tongue

I Just kept my arms out for a good 3 sec. till it started to straiten me out a little before pulling them back. I was still little head down when pulling. Nice on-heading opening though.
In your title of the Thread (Ever fuck up a jump?) that is probably not true. I don't think you fucked your jump up but just the angle of the launch when pushed out there. Bad launch is not necessarily fucking your whole jump up but just a little less efficient on you strive to perfection.

The most important thing to the jump is being aware and knowing you are Head Down on pull time and being able to have a understanding and awareness of what position your body is 'really in' when pulling and loading up on extraction and line stretch.
I don't thing being head-down on the pull is going to make that much difference in the big picture anyway. If you are loading your risers and harness evenly on the canopy extraction and beginnings of inflation. It will be good-to-go and will be good heading and a good jump.
