Asymmetrical designs
I noticed quite a few jumpers having asymmetrical color designs on their canopies, is that simply for esthetical reasons or maybe to help identify linetwists, 180's, canopy flying direction, .. ? or something else?

I am going to take a wild guess that you don't have any canopy flying experiencePirate

Re: [AdamLanes] Asymmetrical designs
I used a sharpie to draw a big "L" and "R" on my canopy so I know which way was which, i aslo put a large "^" to indicate the front. the only thing was i put it on the top skin on accident. now anyone still on the odject knows and im still left guessing. Crazy

have you not noticed how the asymmetrical colour is usually red? that's because a red stripe makes it go faster!!

i have heard about some English guys also using an orange panel because they wanted their friends to recognise them but it didnt work, it just made them more obvious..

Re: [MtK321] Asymmetrical designs
I have ordered three totaly assymetric BASE canopies.
1-Dagger. 500~ jumps, 30+ water landings, parasailing, etc.
it has a pretty obvious left turn. I assume it is from the different colors. (cells 1,2,3 blue, grey center, 5,6,7 yellow)

2-Blackjack/ZP. never wet, 100 jumps. no difference (1,2 blue. 3 grey, 4,5,6,7 yellow)
3-Troll MDV. never wet, 50 jumps. (1,2 yellow. 3 black. 4,5,6,7 blue)

the later are fine, and as long as they dont get wet, I assume they will stay that way.

i SERIOUSLY doubt that assymetric shrinking has much if anything to do with slider down heading performance. maybe slider up, but even then.
the dagger has had no heading problems.

oh, and the collors dont do anything for off heading/linetwist stuff. you wont ever remember what side is left or right color. and you know no matter what.

it does help for packing though.

Do you parasail the Dagger over water or land? I'd be curious about your set up if you've got some time to describe it.

Calvin, when I have some linetwists on your Ex-Sabre2, I curse on you each time, cuz then I start spinning and cant figure out which way to outspin cuz each side is blue!!!! You bastard!!! Laugh

But more seriously, I've never quite took time to think about it until now, when your linetwists induce a left spin, does it mean that you always will kick out to the right, and vice-versa if its a right spin?

hahaha... yeah. both. I have a bunch of 300-2000' 'paracending' flights. over water was 300'.

there are a few threads in this forum about just that.

as i have said a lot, however...

Paracending is by far the most dangerous thing I have goten good at. and i have done a lot of dangerous shit. watch out.

PPS- ill sell you a 'mouth safety cutaway'. i made a few of them, and IMHO, they are the BEST way to tow ANY kind of canopy, including paragliders.

Well I guess I'm fcuked 'cause my canopy is solid in color. I guess for me to identify line twist, I would have to look at my lines. And to see what direction I'm going I'll have to look down, And to see if I have a 180 I'll have to see if the object is in FRONT of me.

Thats it, I'm selling my solid colored canopyTongue

(not to be a smarst a$$, I was just feeling real good at the momentWink )
