In Memory of Stevo

Hi everyone,
This Is Mark Spicer AKA (Spice-girl). I was Stevo's main jumping partner in the many years of jumping and travelling we did together, I am devestated. I am sure many people who met or knew him will be saddened to hear this news. Personally I feel the need to assist his family during this difficult time. I thought one way that people would like to help out, apart from messages of condolences on this thread, is to make a donation to assist his family with the associated costs of his repatriation and funeral services. A lot of his family, friends, BASE, climbing and skydiving communities have expressed a willingness to help out whichever way they can. I believe this would be the most helpful at present. I will send the bank details to anybody who sends me a PM.

His Family would like everyone to know that any amount of money left over will be given to a charity of their choice.

I will start this fund with $700 of my money.

Re: [aussiespice] In Memory of Stevo
Hi everyone, I'm Marty Mitchell. Steve was my brother-in-law. On behalf of my family, and my wife's family the Andertons, I wish to express my heart-felt thanks to all who have shared their condolances and sympathies with us. We have been deeply moved by the high regard Steve was held in by his friends and peers.

Special mention has to be made to Plummy and the guys Steve was jumping with in Norway. We thank you so much for the care and respectful handling of the affairs in Norway, and the sensitivity you've expressed toward Steve and the family. We value your contact with us here at home. We can't imagine to know what you're going through but be assured we are upholding you in prayer.

I also want to thank Mark Spicer for attending the affairs closer to home. Thanks Mark for all you're doing. We really appreciate you and efforts. We're praying for you and Lynette too.

Steve was a fantastic son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, friend and boyfriend; not to mention jumper. We mourn his sudden passing but celebrate a life that was fully lived and not one that just 'existed.'

We know he died doing what he loved and that now he is soaring on heights beyond his wildest dreams because of his love and relationship with Jesus.

Fly on mate. We love and miss you. You will always remain precious to us all.

With love
Marty, Rebekah, Madeline, Ryan, Bethany and Joel Mitchell

Mark, is there anyone there who can take Paypal donations? It would probably be easier for most folks that way. I know I've sent Paypal to Simon before, and I think I've done that with Liv, as well.

Two funny memories;

I remember Steve tossing snowballs around, giddy as a schoolgirl, while hiking up the back of a big wall. It was later explained to me that this was probably the first time he'd seen snow. A few hours later, he was much less impressed with it, as we were pushing through hip-deep snow on the hike to the exit.

And, of course, the time when Steve, wearing only shoes and a shirt (no socks, no pants, no underwear) came walking back up to where the rest of us were packing. Apparently the fancy italian dinner that a local jumper had given us was too much, and his digestion had rebelled, forcing him to sacrifice his pants and underwear, and wipe with his socks.

Fly free, Stevo, the world is a lesser place without you.

I had happy opportunity to complete two wonderful Norway trip with Stevo and rest of the OZ gang. One was 2006, another just ended for me on that sad day.
In small society like BASE, heaving people like Stevo is precious! I will keep him in my memory forever. Great guy, great friend and fantastic motivator. Full of jokes and funny comments. RIP dear Stevo!
Condolences to his family and all close friends of him

I met him when he was getting his first set of BR BASE gear. Nice bloke, loved the outdoors and life.

To all the boys and girls with him in Norway, keep your chin up during this difficult time.

Can someone post a picture or two? I'm wondering if I met him in Lyseboten last year.

Re: [yeyo] In Memory of Stevo
I only met Steve once, but out of it came a good story: It was last year in Romsdalen. He came directly from Kirgisistan where he had climbed and basejumped for his founding project. 40 days in the bigwall of Peak Usen. He had seen our movie "Superterminal". Of course he didn`t know norwegian, but thought out of what he saw on the movie, that we jumped Usen...so he brought his basegear on the climb. When he got up he was surprised to realize that it was no clean exits there, but found a "hairy" one, jumped, flew his ws and was down in under one minute. 40 days up, and one minute down.

After his story I told him that we never jumped that wall. We just sat there for 10 days dreaming about it. But it was good to know that someone actually got to jump that wall.

Your life will fly on in many basejumpers, climbers and friends Steve. Thank you for that strange evening, and the jump next day.
