Waterproof/shockproof phone
I just upgraded my Verizon phone to a new waterproof, shockproof, and sand/dirtproof phone. It can even be dunked up to 30 feet under water (and record video underwater and pictures with a 2 megapixel camera). It has a plastic loop on it to secure it to something with a small caribeener. It even has 4 split stop watches accurate to within 1/100 of a second. It also has an LED flashlight. It seems like a worthwhile investment for the rigors of BASE jumping.

Or just buy a "disposable" $10 pay-as-you-go phone.

Re: [yuri_base] Waterproof/shockproof phone
I frequently do back country jumping where the loss of a phone could be absolutely critical for survival.

Thanks 460! I’m in need of a new phone. The one I have got wet and no longer works properly. I have been wondering if those assholes had ever heard of rain.

Re: [johan420] Waterproof/shockproof phone
I had a Nokia 8390 that went into the Snake River with me. Three days of drying and it still didn't work, so I bought a new phone. Another week later and the 8390 started working. I'll still pop my SIM into it and take it along when I think there's a good change it might rain or I might land in water.

It's good to have a backup.

Re: [johan420] Waterproof/shockproof phone
he he the first day i had my 5140 i took it to a jump(no big deale) then went to a pub had a few pints opened the phone(you can take the cover off)then i by accsident droped a pint of beer into the phone(directly to the metal work/print),i took off the battery, cleaned it below freshwater left it at a radiator 1,5 day on medium heat,as i took on the cover and turned on the phone it worked right away...

Oh but(most for americans) dont place your phone in a microwave oven unless you want it to dieTongue it looks cool and the tecnic guy cant figure out how the components has poped out of the print and got welded onto other placesSlyLaugh but hey if you have a great service you´ll get a new phone for free as i did..(nooo i didnt do it on purpose.. that would be criminal right?Wink )

Re: [Faber] Waterproof/shockproof phone
My waterproof phone is good down to 30 feet indefinitely. It also has a GPS navigator or at least a GPS map navigator for road travel (according to their webpage but I haven't tried this feature). It's not an international phone though since it doesn't support 900 MHz. For pure rescue in truly remote locations, their are satellite transponders that work well but they can be a little bulky. Check out an hiking/climbing magazines and you can find them there.
