During a recent trip to TF, I saw some very scary student jumpers. The attached photo is of an unknown jumper doing his first stowed jump. The photo was taken apx 2 seconds after exiting. He then fumbled around with his PC for another 2.5 seconds, opened his canopy, and pounded into the shoreline. Some people just aren't cut out for this base jumping thing.....

Thats messed up man! People just don't understand that just because its a bridge doesn't mean it can't kill you! I think there should be permits for jumping there from now on. Any ideas?

I think it would be great for the city of TF to issue permits, it would be a wonderful way to give back. Our money could make benches around the city. People should Have 50 pendulater jumps signed off to apply for a permit before attempting the bridge.

Calvin, you will ALWAYS get the style points bro, that was funny. That picture was hysterical.....in a gonna die way. Which is actually not so funny. What I wanna know was who was his mentor. Seriously, back in the day, folks wanted to know who was responsible for you doing what you're doing when you're doing it. Not that I haven't done some goofy things myself tho. Not playah' hatin', just a REALLY great pic.

I am his 'flips' mentor. his gainers are strong, but anything over a 3 rotation trick he botches badly. i think he only has like 30 BASE jumps.

I also laughed my ass off when I saw that pic. And I too would like to know what words of incuragement he receaved before he climbed over the rail.

I recall one person who was there at the same time I was. I wasn't his mentor per say but it was a slow weekend and I was the one of the more experenced people there and was trying to look out for him. He wanted to do front loops. I recall explaining to him why this was perhaps not such a good idea and that at seven base jumps it was perhaps just bloody stupid and suggested that he might work on other things like learning to stay alive. Never the less the next thing I know I look over at him as he hangs from the rail and it's just obveous whats comeing. I don't have the picture, or the video. It wasn't quite as good as this one but close.

In short I'm more inclined to give people the bennifit of a doubt. Once they climb over that rail or step off that edge they are on there own and there is nothing you can do to help them. And if they chose not to lissen to what they have been told I can not hold the others involved responceable. And if I ever tell you that "You might not want to do something..." Let me translate, "You're about to fucking die!"

yup, this whole base jumping thing should be way more regulated. We should get the city council to set up a commitee of non jumpers to tell us what to do.

its all about common sense...dude...
we see so many people beginning BASE doing stupid shit and you know why?
because almost everybody in the comunity give them the feeling that it is the right attitude to go hard...
pull low, do freaky arials, where is my wingsuit...
even when they have no clue what will happen sooner or later...
the funny thing is, when THIS people who use to act like that guy with 30 jumps doing such shity manuvers , when hew grows old and wise,
(sometimes it happens) HE will proabebly say to other guys in the future:
"Hey you, thats not a good idea to do this that way..."

BASE should be a free space for free spirts...yes!!!
BUT!!! please use your brains...
take your time and learn...dont rush....

Jesus! Pitching at such a head low position is just asking to have his legs caught in his lines during deployment and line stretch. I have heard of that happening before to some jumpers with no clue in what they are doing. This photo and jump just looks dangerous to me in all forms. It is a perfect example of a jumper with ZERO experience trying to KILL themselves. Why must people like this decide to go to the Perrine and risk life and limb with their inexperience day in and day out? I hope he saw stars on opening...

I met this guy once, he is sketchy to say the least. He BASE jumps a lot better when he’s wearing skis. Without them he is physically and mentally unbalanced.

On the plus side, at least this mystery student is super flex-able (possibly helping to prevent future injuries). I heard talking to another jumper at the exit point about how he used to be into rhythmic gymnastics. At first I thought this was nervous newbie jumper nonsense. However, after reviewing the rest of the photo sequence, I realized he had executed a near perfect split jump moments before his canopy opened. Perhaps this guy is starting a new style of base jumping?

man, deadmanwalking. you need to rethink your choices and why you base jump. it is a very dangerous activity that can injure or kill its participants. know what you are getting into by reading basejumper.com.

Here’s another photo of the student going head low. Obviously, he is having trouble with the basics. Perhaps if someone would instruct him on proper flight technique, he would eventually learn to fly stable. Sky up, earth down, arch…arch…arch!
