SLIDER UP - LINE OVER PREVENTION
I originally posted this poll 8/06 as "SLIDER UP TAILGATE USE". A couple options added to get a better feel for general outlook/practice.

Please do not turn this into another but isn't the sliders other function to keep the lines from flapping about and prevent line-over

We get your point.

As 980 stated in the last thread - it's a handy side-effect, but plenty of slider up line-overs have proven that it is not 100% effective in this regard.

Just vote what practice you use when packing slider up.

Re: [Amanduh] SLIDER UP - LINE OVER PREVENTION
another good argument is most slider up jumps are done in shallow
(er) brake settings, making a lineover easy (er) to occur.

Since 2 voted 'other', could someone please explain what that (those) option(s) could be? Thanks.

Especially those with a tailgate ready C-line. Those are the true soldiers.

Subterminal: I use a tailgate slider up or down.

Terminal: Direct control, and I wrap the tailgate lines in the slider, I think it's called the burrito method. I remove the tailgate. I also use WLO's.

Damn I thought the burrito was a PC packjob for terminal....u know b4 the shroomjob..? Tongue

How is the heading performance with that 'burrito' method? (not that its a big deal for terminal but curious minds want to know)Smile

What delay ranges are you assuming for terminal and subterminal?

Could your tailgate get stuck in a large mesh slider? I think tape is the way to go.

Beware of how masking tape reacts when it gets wet. It gets strong... really fucking strong.

I had a pretty wet (like jumping in the rain, landing in the grass, and then accidentally putting the canopy down in a puddle while I took my gear off wet) canopy in Switzerland a couple of weeks ago. I used masking tape on the next packjob. It opened fine.

The canopy was still wet after that second jump and it was beer drinkin' time, so I aired it out before I packed it up again.

Yes. I have seen a tailgate stuck in a large mesh slider. Fortunately the tailgate tore out of the line, rather than keeping the slider up, and the jumper landed uneventfully.

In the old days, if we were nervous abuot a slider up lineover, we just used a couple of scafrice rubber bands on the slack in the control lines. We like the old KISS principle. Seems to work OK.
