If you avoid people becourse they host their web at a special place then i think your rather weird.. you dont speak to people uploading vids to youtube or skydivingmovies.com aswell??

I find it hard to take anyone with a myspace/flickr/geocities/angelfire/aol/compuserve account seriously...

...but I've been around electronic communications for awhile ;-)

I do agree that some vids aint for public,thats also why you get vids similar to eachother as people only show what should be showen..

Ive done serval vids,mostly to be a great reminder to me and my freinds i jumped whith at that point..

psst freinds list is already in this site.. i think its great fun,why? might becourse it tells me that even as im a lonely wolf arround here then i still have freinds out there.. and trust me,thouse i jump whith or chooce to use as gc i trust by my life..

By the end of the day its all entertainment(atleast to me) untill get get out next time..

i too at one time really hated the whole myspace thing. i did get a page a few months ago and i must confess i really enjoy the benefits.
for one i dont get to see my family very much and many friends from where i grew up. i like my space because it makes it much easier to let these people be part of my life that i ordinarily wouldnt have the motivation to email/ send pics ext...
my space has helped keep my buisness very steady as well. i actuallt get more hits on it than my website, so that good for the money end of things.
i truly understand your view, i guess its not for everybody though, but to look down on someone because they have a myspace acct doesnt seem very realistic. if its not your deal cool, but theres litteraly millions of subscribers that enjoy the communication with others, is that really such a bad thing?

you are confusing issues. many do.

Myspace is simply a tool. it can be used well, or poorly. I am NOT a fan of people using it as a status symbol, trying to attract attention. (heck, some seem to BASE simply for bragging rights.) it CAN be used differently. it is up to the user.

virtually anything can be used positively or negatively. remember, many solid BASE jumpers leave no trace. thus the group gets it's reputation from those who do...

 

I encourage people to whine and complain about things they feel hurt the sport! (videos on youtube... generally not good.)

just try to separate the act (creating a "look at me" page) from the tool (website). I'm convinced (although it's generally NOT the case) that myspace can be used well.

There is a clue that it is not named "Othersspace" or "Otherstube." The sites are all about promoting one's self.
Would it be better for you if I dedicate my web page to you instead of me? What about jumpers jumping with smoke. There is the orange "This is me" smoke, and the white "Here I am". What is so bad about saying "This is what I like", "This is what I do", "this is me"?
Are you so ashamed of being a BASE jumper that you cannot stand on a high point and say to yourself and the world that this moment is yours? What we do is very remarkable. Trying to share the feelings is natural.
I hope to jump with you sometimes. I don't care about your youtube or myspace accounts. I want to see the look on your face at landing and I want you to see mine.

I agree to an extent. Face it, the majority of myspace sites are straight up attention whores, especially women..go figure..hahah.
Rather than view something as a "look what I can do", to me it's more like "this is what I do". I like posting videos on my page and photos of skydiving mainly to share what inspires me with others. I like going to my buddy's sites and checking out what's going on in their lives and maybe seeing a few people they hang with, etc. I actually wish more people posted videos of something they do or photos of activities they enjoy. It's interesting to see what inspires different people.

The best thing about myspace is it's real easy to make friends too, I've been on for just over a year and I'm up to 38 friends...that's more than I've made in my whole life!!!

I'm not really seeing the difference between people who post photos of themselves and the things they like on the internet and people who spend a lot of time discussing their personal feelings, for no apparent reason, on the internet.
forums / myspace, similar shit, much of the time, same people.

Just think of something to post in the CRW forum on dorkzone, like ya did last year. They'll make ya feel the "love".
